✨ Devotion: No Fellowship with Darkness: A Shepherd’s Warning✨
📖 “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.” — Ephesians 5:11 (NIV)
As the seasons shift, so do the traditions around us — some lighthearted, others deeply rooted in culture. But not all traditions align with the truth of Christ. Today, many new believers find themselves torn between familiar customs and the call to live a transformed life in Jesus. Without clear spiritual guidance, some unknowingly engage in practices that, while socially accepted, subtly echo the influence of spiritual darkness rather than the light of God.
This isn’t merely about costumes or candy — it’s about spiritual clarity and conviction. When pastors and leaders overlook or even endorse activities that fail to honor God, it casts a shadow on the integrity of their calling. Scripture reminds us that “not many of you should become teachers… because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly” (James 3:1). A true shepherd does not remain silent. He lovingly warns, corrects, and leads the flock away from anything that grieves the Holy Spirit. Light and darkness were never meant to mingle — not in our worship, not in our witness.
Some justify participation by appealing to “Christian liberty,” saying, “If my conscience is clear, it’s fine.” But let’s be reminded: true liberty in Christ is not permission to flirt with sin — it is the power to walk in holiness, to live set apart, and to reflect the purity of God’s heart. Our freedom should mirror the character of Christ, not the compromise of culture.
🙏 Prayer
Gracious Father, thank You for sending Jesus, the Light of the world. Help me to walk in Your truth and not be swayed by culture or compromise. Grant me discernment to recognize what grieves Your Spirit and courage to stand apart when others blend in. May my life reflect Your holiness and shine with Your love and integrity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
