Five West Raleigh women attended the Montreat Women’s Connection Conference in August. We had a wonderful time connecting and communing together at Emily’s mountain home, sharing meals, taking walks, and even having a few encounters with bears!

The conference invited us into a journey of faith that calls us beyond the immediate chaos of life and encourages us to trust the soul-steadying truth of God’s presence with us. God continues to invite us to lift our eyes—to look beyond what is immediately before us and to remember that we are held in God’s faithful presence.

The newly-renovated music space has become even more beautiful with the addition of a felt piece by Rachel Nicholson. Entitled "Birds of Paradise," it features birds and flowers in vibrant colors. Rachel, a professional artist and longtime choir member, spent much of the summer designing and working on the piece, which now adorns the north wall of the choir room. Rachel's husband Cheyney tells us that these magnificent birds and flowers, both named "birds of paradise," reflect species as they are really seen in nature.

If you haven't already visited our spiffed-up rehearsal room, come on upstairs any Sunday after church -- we'll be glad to show you. And thank you, Rachel, for your gift of love, heart, and creativity!

On August 8, invites us to join immigrants, neighbors, and people of faith for a Day of Prayer & Action at the North Carolina State Capitol.

The North Carolina General Assembly overrode Governor Josh Stein’s veto of Senate Bill 153 on June 24. Among other things, the law requires several law enforcement agencies, including NC Highway Patrol, to collaborate with ICE.

During the Day of Prayer & Action, we will gather at the State Capitol to pray for immigrants living with fear and uncertainty, and for Highway Patrol officers who now bear the moral burden of enforcing policies that target the very neighbors and drivers they are called to protect. Together, we will bear public, nonpartisan witness to God’s dream of a world where every person may flourish without fear and may freely act according to their conscience.

The one-hour prayer vigil will be followed by optional trainings on Know Your Rights workshops and organizing prayer services with local Highway Patrol offices.

Thanks to the commitment of our church community, we reached our goal of collecting 1,000 pounds of soft film plastics through the NexTrex Recycling Challenge!

As part of our commitment to being an Earth Care Congregation, your recycling efforts helped earn a new Trex® bench for our Memorial Garden. The bench has now been delivered and assembled by Dennis Blazier, and we're grateful for the time and care he gave to completing the project.

Thank you to everyone who saved grocery bags, bread bags, bubble wrap, and other thin film plastics over the past 8 months, and to Beth Harris for collecting and weighing our collection every week! Together, we've cared for God's creation while creating a welcoming place for our community to rest and reflect.

Our Middle School Youth spent the weekend serving, creating, and making memories together.

On Friday, they prepared sandwiches for the Feeding Ministry, welcomed guests, and served lunch—offering frozen water bottles and freezer pops to help beat the summer heat. They also built lacewing habitats and a native bee house from recycled materials to support the Beeloved Garden.

The weekend wrapped up at Lake Gaston with swimming, kayaking, games, and plenty of laughter. It was a joyful reminder that serving one another and spending time together are both important ways we grow in faith and community.

Caring for students is at the heart of who we are. This summer, you can show this love by sharing extra kitchen essentials with students who are getting settled for the school year.

West Raleigh is partnering with Pack Essentials to collect dishes, silverware, measuring cups, mixing bowls, pots, pans, and other everyday kitchen items for NC State students.

Donations may be dropped off in Room 113 anytime between now and August 9.

Please make sure any nonstick (Teflon) cookware or utensils are not chipped or flaking.

Thank you for helping students feel cared for as they begin a new semester ❤🐺

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is a connectional church. West Raleigh is one of over 8,400 congregations, which are organized into 166 Presbyteries and 16 Synods.

Delegates from each Presbytery are commissioned to a national gathering called the General Assembly that is held every other year. The 227th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) just concluded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and West Raleigh’s own Elder Alec Peters served as a Commissioner from New Hope Presbytery! Along with worship and committee work, commissioners also marched to Milwaukee City Hall as a public witness against gun violence.

We’re grateful for Alec’s faithful service and for the ways our congregation shares in the wider ministry of the church.
