What an awesome service at the Definition Church on Sunday! I took plenty of notes... π
"Hearing God Together!"
2 Kings 2:1-6
(1) The role of a prophet is someone who God speaks through to help other people live in His favor, protection, and guidance. Their function and purpose in the Old and New Testament is to help the people align with God.
(2) God wants to speak to you, God is speaking to you, and you can hear him
(3) Three ways God speaks to us:
a. Scripture
b. Silence (Psalm 2:65; 46:10)
c. Community
(4) You can pick out a person's voice in a crowd, when you have spent time with them, and you know how they speak. I have to become familiar with the Word of God. Scripture is a tool we use to discern God's voice. If I want to hear God's voice in my heart, I have to learn to read His voice with my eyes.
(5) When God speaks, He will be consistent with what He has already spoken.
(6) As is with Elijah, he thought God was in the wind, fire, and earthquake. But He was actually in the small, still, quiet, whisper. We have to slow down to allow ourselves to hear God. Many times, we are trying to do more than what God has asked us to do and become very busy and distracted. We must make space & time to listen to God.
(7) God will never say something only to you. God does not give the whole picture to one person; He gives it in part -- hence we need each other, we need community.
(8) God never speaks incorrectly, but we can hear incorrectly.
(9) We need to be involved with [community] So the ear, or what has been heard, can be attached to some hands, arms, and legs in order to get something done
(10) When God speaks how do we respond? (2 Kings 2:7-14)
- listen with humility
- You will not have the character to steward your dream, until
you learn to serve someone else's
(11) God will rarely reveal your calling, if you will worship the calling, instead of Him
(12) Our service is not a performance
(13) [What we do or not do] is not behavioral management, it is learning how to be with Jesus. It's not what you believe, it is who you are. The more I spend time with Jesus, the more I become like Him.
(14) We must stay connected (John 15:5)
(15) As a church, we should do our part by voting. We will focus on Jesus, we are going to prioritize people, and then we will allow that to inform us on how to engage in our country's political system.
(16) Hebrews 4:12 says they Word helps me differentiate between me, my feelings and thoughts, and God's.
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12)
(17) In addition, Galations 5:22-23, helps me differentiate and govern what is of God within me
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."
Wow! Love this... π₯°
