This Sunday, June 7 from 3-5pm, people of many faiths will gather at Edenton Street United Methodist Church for music, prayer, learning, and witness in solidarity with our immigrant and refugee neighbors. Attendees will hear from speakers who work alongside immigrant communities every day, lift our voices in song from across faith traditions, and explore what it means to be a people of welcome.

The event is free and open to all, with no registration required. More information at wakeinterfaithimmigration.org.

Jesus at the Gay Bar

He's here in the midst of it -
right at the center of the dance floor,
robes hitched up to His knees
to make it easy to spin.

At some point in the evening
a boy will touch the hem of His robe
and beg to be healed, beg to be
anything other than this;

and He will reach His arms out,
sweat-damp, and weary from dance.
He'll cup this boy's face in His hands
and say,

'my beautiful child
there is nothing in this heart of yours
that ever needs to be healed.'

You may have noticed some exciting updates around the St. Paul's property! Last weekend, a team completed the work to level out the brick walkway in the Columbarium, an important improvement to ensure the space is safe and accessible.

Also, the City of Raleigh is putting the finishing touches on the Blue Ridge Road Project! This includes a unique poetry walk with sculptures inspired by North Carolina poet laureates. One of the sculptures is featured near the sidewalk as you pass the sanctuary. Last but not least, the stormwater retention pond near the St. Paul's sign is scheduled to be completed at the beginning of June.

God of every tongue,

We are grateful that in the presence of Your Spirit, we are not asked to forget our selves, but to remember them. To remember where we came from, the sound of our own cultures and languages. Help us to heal from those spiritual spaces which have demanded assimilation from us under the guise of unity. We have been told that to belong is to diminish those things that make us different and exalt commonality. Teach us the kind of belonging that is not threatened by differences, but comes alive at the site of inclusion. Protect us from communities who only welcome our cultures as a theatrical symbol of their own benevolence. Lead us into spaces where our presence is longed for not as a mark of achievement, but out of the deep recognition that hope cannot survive on one tongue alone.

Last Sunday, St. Paul’s celebrated 67 years of faithful ministry, and the beginning of an exciting new chapter! After serving as Senior and Associate Ministers, Pastors Diane and Amanda were installed as Co-Ministers of St. Paul's, now serving as equal partners in ministry.

We believe this model of leadership reflects the nature of a triune God who has always existed in equal relationship, rather than hierarchy. It also embodies our denomination's fervent belief in the priesthood of all believers; the ministry of St. Paul’s belongs to all of us.

As we anticipate Pentecost Sunday and remember the birth of the universal Church two-thousand years ago, we are grateful for every leader, pastor, and lay person who has ministered within and beyond the walls of St. Paul's over the past 67 years.

We step into this new season with joy - knowing that, just like those first disciples, we do not go alone 🕊️
