STRENGTHENING THE CHURCH: OUR CALL TO ENCOURAGE AND ASSEMBLE
by Adam Dooley
Christian Action League

Ours is an age of rugged individualism. Be true to yourself. Live your truth. Just follow your heart. Balancing such notions, however, with Jesus’ commands to deny ourselves and take up our crosses in order to follow Him is logically fallacious (Luke 9:23). Sentiments like these not only run contrary to the basic premises of Christianity, but also jettison the church for a more self-centered faith. Recent chatter about deconstructing faith is really nothing more than egotistical effort to justify aberrant views and behavior that run contrary to historical orthodoxy.

RETHINKING ALCOHOL: MAJOR STUDY DEBUNKS MODERATION MYTHS
by Peyton Majors

A major new study is challenging and even overturning the widely held belief that moderate alcohol consumption has health benefits. The research, published in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs, found no health benefits in moderate alcohol consumption such as consuming a glass of wine a day. In fact, the research said, previous studies that found a supposed health benefit were flawed.

The pendulum is beginning to swing some the other way. After tens of thousands of destroyed lives, its becoming more and more apparent that alcohol is a destroyer.

A TRIBUTE TO PAMELA BLUME: FAITHFUL FRIEND, ADVOCATE, LEADER
by L.A. Williams

The Christian Action League lost a dear friend, a passionate advocate for the cause of Christ and a former board member on Monday with the passing of Pamela Lee Walker Blume. Like every member of the board, she was deeply concerned with the church's role as "salt" and "light" in our culture and lamented the church's often insufficient engagement with critical social issues.

ON POLITICS AND FAITH
by Adam Dooley
Christian Action League

Don’t be fooled by the corruption of Washington, D.C. or the genuine disappointment you feel toward our politicians – God is still in control. I refuse to tremble in the shadow of a misguided electorate when the Lord of heaven and earth reigns on high. The kingdom of Christ marches on even as the nations of the earth rise and fall. Even when the principles of liberty and freedom are in jeopardy, God’s plan and purposes are not.

This is one of the most comforting and reassuring messages on the current political situation in America that you will read.

Trump, who lost his previous reelection bid and survived a recent assassination attempt. In the other stands...

Less than five months after U.S. senators Thom Tillis and Ted Budd fired off a letter raising questions about how North Carolinians would be kept safe once the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians began selling recreational ma*****na, Tillis now says he supports a “comprehensive regulatory framework that treats ma*****na just like tobacco.”

Friends, this is serious. Its wrong!

by L.A. Williams

Doctors who abort North Carolina babies after 12 weeks of pregnancy will need to do so in hospital settings, according to a federal judicial ruling issued last week that upholds the hospitalization requirement in the state’s 2023 abortion law. At the same time, U.S. District Judge Catherine Eagles struck down the portion of the law requiring doctors to document the location of a pregnancy before prescribing abortion pills.

GRANVILLE COUNTY COCKFIGHTING BUST EXPOSES CRIMINAL NETWORK, CAL WANTS LEGAL REVISIONS
by L.A. Williams

A huge bust of a cockfighting ring in Granville County on July 27 has organizations across the state and in Washington, D.C., calling for stronger laws to combat the cruel practice and the laundry list of crimes so often connected to it. Rev. Mark Creech, executive director of the Christian Action League said that although cockfighting is illegal in all 50 states, current North Carolina laws are insufficient to address the complexities and modern realities of the issue.

This is not inconsequential and in need of attention by NC lawmakers:

This year’s Republican National Convention was anything but the traditional event your father or grandfather might remember. In fact, if the GOP’s forefathers were still alive, they’d likely be blushing -- if not downright agitated.

FROM BEDFORD FALLS TO POTTERSVILLE: THE STATE'S ALCOHOL POLICY GONE AWRY
by Rev. Mark Creech

Remember the transformation of Bedford Falls to Pottersville in the classic film "It's a Wonderful Life"? Once a picturesque, peaceful town where everyone knew each other and community values thrived, Bedford Falls became Pottersville—a place characterized by unchecked vice, neon signs, and a pervasive sense of disarray and moral decline. This unsettling change mirrors the potential impact of SB 527 – the ABC Omnibus 2023-2024 bill that passed and was signed into law this year.

Perhaps you've never taken seriously how devastating to good morals irresponsible alcohol policies are. Maybe its time to give it serious consideration.
