A KITCHEN for the community.

Honoring St. Mark's Legacy in Southeast Raleigh.
The New Hope Collaborative
1725 N. New Hope Road, Raleigh NC 27610

St. Mark's was built on the conviction that the Church exists to serve its neighbors - especially those on the margins.
The New Hope Collaborative, along with Ekklesia Church of Raleigh, and the Diocese of North Carolina are planning for construction of a new kitchen in the Sanctuary building to "FEED hungry neighbors, CREATE space for community, HONOR St. Mark's mission, and ENSURE the building remains a beacon of hope."

Will you help us set the table?
Any amount that you can contribute is greatly appreciated and helps move this vision forward.

This new community garden located at St. Mark's is an example of how this treasured community is continuing to grow even as it changed following the closing of St. Mark's. The space is no longer fallow, instead it is being actively planted, nurtured, and welcoming.

The Diocese of North Carolina recently announced the creation of the New Hope Collaborative, a new initiative at the site of the former St. Mark’s, Raleigh. Though the site will become known as the New Hope Collaborative, the St. Mark’s Memorial Garden will continue with the same name.

The New Hope Collaborative is a special mission of the Diocese of North Carolina. The campus will serve as a hub for collaboration, innovation and connection for minority-led nonprofits, diocesan congregations, and diverse civic and worshipping communities in southeast Raleigh. The vision is to cultivate a dynamic and inclusive environment where resources, tools and inspiration converge to amplify the God-given gifts in the community and embody the diocesan missional priorities. The new director, Lesley Peace, will focus on creating sustainable systems, and collaborating with existing and new partners to build a space for healing and innovation, while creating opportunities to address systemic inequities and inspiring collective transformation.

Some of the partners already working with New Hope Collaborative are Loaves and Fishes, a long-standing beloved afterschool program for more than 100 children from kindergarten through 12th grade, and Ekklesia, a worshiping community grounded in community outreach, racial justice and community collaboration from the Methodist tradition. Other partners beginning their work on campus are Justice Served NC, Bridge International and Evolve Mentoring.

St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Raleigh, NC held its final closing service on Sunday, April 24, 2022. We had a wonderful, if poignant, service of celebration and healing as we said goodbye to our beloved church. The Episcopal Diocese of NC will hold this space in a 'fallow' state until such time as its place in the community becomes clear. Please see Thomas Sayre's rich painting as a thoughtful reflection of what this means for the St. Mark's community.

The Memorial Garden at St. Mark's will remain open and will be maintained by the diocese. Any questions can be directed to the diocese at (919)834-7474 or https://www.episdionc.org/.

THE DISMISSAL
"Life is short and we do not have much time to gladden the hearts of those who travel with us. So be swift to love, make haste to be kind, and go in peace to love and serve the Lord." ~Henri Frederic Amiel

Good Friday – April 15th.

At noon, we will gather in the Centrum in silence to place at the center of our attention Jesus’ passion, suffering, and death on the cross with a Proper Liturgy. We will retell the stories of Jesus’ arrest, trial, and crucifixion, and take part in the events of Jesus’ passion through our participation in special intercessory prayers, and through our attention to a large wooden cross.

Presiding: The Rev. Lauren Kilbourn
Music: Allen Herther

Masks continue to be required.
