🇨🇷 Costa Rica Mission Trip Update – Days 4 & 5 🇨🇷

Over the last two days, our team has continued serving in La Carpio alongside Pastor Alvin and the team at Renuevos, sharing the love of Christ through practical service, relationships, and the proclamation of the Gospel.

Day 4 included:
• House visits throughout the community
• Building a gazebo for ministry use
• A VBS program serving approximately 50–60 children
• A baking class for local mothers, providing another opportunity to build relationships, encourage one another, and share the hope found in Christ

Last evening, Pastor Joe had the opportunity to preach at the local church in La Carpio. He taught on the glory of God and boldly shared the Gospel. Please continue to pray that God’s Word would bear much fruit in the lives of those who heard it.

Day 5 found us back in La Carpio finishing the framing work on the gazebo. Our ladies continued ministering to local mothers, teaching them cross-stitching while sharing life, encouragement, and the love of Christ. Another team served at a local daycare, spending time with the children and workers there.

In the afternoon, we hosted another VBS with crafts, Bible lessons, and activities for the children. We wrapped up the day playing games and soccer with many of the local children, building friendships and creating opportunities to continue sharing Christ’s love.

As our week comes to a close, we are thankful for the opportunity to serve alongside Pastor Alvin, the Renuevos team, and the people of La Carpio. We have seen God’s hand at work through conversations, ministry opportunities, and the faithfulness of the local church.

Tomorrow is a long travel day as we begin our journey back to Ohio, arriving home around midnight. Please pray for safe travels, smooth connections, physical endurance, and for all that God has done this week to continue bearing fruit long after we return home.

Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, and support throughout this trip. We look forward to sharing more of what God has done in the days ahead.

Costa Rica Mission Trip Update – Day 3 & Looking Ahead to Today 🇨🇷

Yesterday was another full and meaningful day of ministry in Costa Rica.

Pastor Joe and Pastor Reed spent the morning in La Carpio at Renuevos, meeting with approximately 10–12 local church leaders. They shared from Scripture about how faith is strengthened and ministry is shaped through suffering. It was an encouraging time of discipleship, fellowship, and equipping men and women who are faithfully serving Christ in difficult circumstances.

Meanwhile, the larger group traveled to Las Gradas (“The Place of Stairs”), one of the most impoverished communities in Central America. There, Ruth and Krystle had the opportunity to share their testimonies and clearly present the Gospel to a group of local women. We rejoice that 20 ladies professed faith in Christ during that time. What an incredible reminder that God is still drawing people to Himself and changing lives through the power of the Gospel.

In the evening, the team enjoyed authentic Costa Rican food and culture together, reflecting on all that God had done throughout the day.

Today, we will be back in La Carpio serving alongside Pastor Alvin and the team at Renuevos. The day includes:

• House visits throughout the community
• Building a gazebo
• A VBS program for approximately 50–60 children
• A baking class for local mothers, providing another opportunity to build relationships and share the love of Christ

This evening, Pastor Joe will be preaching at the local church. We would greatly appreciate your prayers that the Lord would work mightily through His Word, drawing people to Himself, strengthening believers, and encouraging the local church.

Please pray:

• For the 20 women who received Christ, that they would grow in their faith and become connected to a local church.
• For the children attending VBS today.
• For the mothers participating in the baking class.
• For Pastor Alvin and the local church leaders.
• For Pastor Joe as he preaches tonight.
• For hearts to be receptive to the Gospel.
• For God’s protection, strength, and wisdom for our team.

We serve a God who is still saving, still transforming lives, and still building His Church.

“I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.” — Matthew 16:18

Costa Rica Mission Trip — Day 2 Update 🇨🇷

Yesterday we returned to Tirases for another day of ministry and relationship building.

The ladies spent time with the local women, baking pretzels together while sharing about the Lord and talking through life. It was a reminder of how often the simplest things can become opportunities for ministry. The local women were excited to be able to take the pretzels home with them—something many of us might take for granted, but a meaningful blessing to them.

We also set up a table in the town square, handed out New Testaments, prayed with people on their way to work and school, and had many opportunities to encourage and share the hope of Christ.

One of the highlights of the day was spending time with the local children and teenagers, playing soccer and simply doing life together. Relationships continue to grow, and it has been a joy to laugh, play, and connect with them.

Later, we went on another prayer walk throughout the community, praying for families, homes, and the many needs represented there.

In the afternoon, part of our team traveled to Las Pavas, where men’s and women’s Bible studies were held with individuals whose lives have been impacted by drugs, gangs, and difficult circumstances. It was powerful to see people gathering around God’s Word and hearing about the hope and transformation found in Christ.

The day concluded with Pastor Joe preaching at the church many of these men and women now attend. What a blessing to witness lives being changed through the power of the Gospel and to see the local church faithfully discipling people in their walk with Christ.

Looking Ahead to Today

Today we will be serving in Las Gradas, one of the poorest areas within La Carpio. Las Gradas is located in the poorest section of La Carpio—the largest slum in Central America—and was established to reach children, teenagers, and women living in extreme poverty with the Gospel, feeding programs, educational assistance, and community outreach. Around 40,000 people live in La Carpio, with children making up nearly half of the population.

Pastor Joe and Pastor Reed will also be meeting with young leaders from local churches to encourage them and share biblical wisdom on leadership, discipleship, and serving faithfully within the local church. We are excited for the opportunity to invest not only in outreach but also in the development of leaders who will continue ministering long after we return home.

Please pray:

* For open hearts as the Gospel is shared.
* For the children and families of Las Gradas.
* For the young church leaders who will be gathering today.
* For wisdom, encouragement, and fruitful conversations.
* For strength, unity, and continued opportunities to point people to Christ.

“The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” — 2 Timothy 2:2 (NASB 1995)

Thank you for continuing to pray for our team. God is opening doors, building relationships, and reminding us that the Gospel truly is the power of God for salvation. 🇨🇷✝️

🇨🇷 Costa Rica Mission Trip – Day 1 Update 🇨🇷

Today our team had the privilege of serving in Tirases with Christ in the City International and we are thankful for all that God allowed us to be a part of.

The ladies spent time with local women, sharing the story of the Samaritan woman and presenting the Gospel. They also handed out blessing bags, worked on an embroidery craft together, and had meaningful conversations about life, faith, and the hope found in Christ.

The rest of the team went on a prayer walk through the community. Along the way, we were able to stop and pray with eight different people who were facing difficult circumstances, including cancer, sickness, and estrangement from family. It was a humbling reminder that people everywhere are carrying burdens and need the hope of Jesus.

In the afternoon, our team had the opportunity to serve many of the children in the area. We spent time playing games, kicking around soccer balls, laughing, building relationships, and simply loving on the kids. These moments opened doors for conversations and helped us connect with families throughout the community.

We met many wonderful people today and are looking forward to returning tomorrow for Day 2. Our plans include sharing the Gospel, distributing Bibles, continuing prayer walks, and building relationships within the community. The ladies will be teaching local women how to bake while sharing life together and pointing them to Christ. Part of our team will also be traveling to Pavas to share the Gospel there.

Please pray for:
• Open hearts to receive the Gospel
• Boldness and wisdom for our team
• Opportunities for meaningful conversations
• The people we prayed with today who are battling illness, cancer, and broken relationships
• The children and families we met today
• Lasting fruit from the seeds being planted this week

Thank you for praying for us. We are excited to see what God will continue to do in the days ahead.

“How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard?” — Romans 10:14 (NASB 1995)

We are grateful for your prayers as we seek to make Christ known and share the hope of the Gospel with those God places in our path
