Paul’s relationship with Timothy came out of deep loss. There was a gaping hole because of the loss of relationship with Barnabas. That made room for this relationship with Timothy. This is still hard because it makes the loss feel kind of cheap. It makes it seem as if we are just dismissing it. It makes it feel like it was never a big deal. With loss comes grief. Grief looks different for every single person. The timeline of grief looks different for every single person. In our grief, we can look for God to work in unexpected ways if we will realize that we don’t see the big picture, but we can trust the One does.

Sometimes we are afraid to find blessing in our grief. We think filling up that empty space with something new means we are replacing whoever or whatever we’ve lost. Loss is hard because it makes the loss look cheap or like it didn’t matter. It feels like we are cheapening it. It feels like we are replacing something or someone. But that’s not true. No one could replace Barnabas in Paul's life but at the same time after this loss, God does something. He raises someone new up to fill some of that space. This relationship between Timothy and Paul becomes something so beautiful and one of the most important in Paul’s life. Paul was open to realize he doesn’t see the whole picture. He didn’t know how it would work out but trusted God.

Is there any loss in your life? Are there any places of emptiness? Could God be asking you to trust Him through the pain? Can we trust the One who does see the big picture?

𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝗼𝐮 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐭𝗼 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝗼𝐮𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐭𝗼𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐞'𝐬 𝐬𝐧𝐚𝐩𝐬𝐡𝗼𝐭 #2 𝐟𝐫𝗼𝗺 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐬?

Paul had been to Lystra before on his first missionary journey with Barnabas. People tried to worship him as a god and Paul was just no having it. So, they turned on him and dragged him outside the city to stone him and they thought they succeeded in killing him. Imagine their surprise when Paul comes back. Paul meets someone who will become one of the most important relationships in his life.

Let’s find out who that person in Acts 16:1-2, 𝙋𝙖𝙪𝙡 𝙬𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝘿𝙚𝙧𝙗𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙇𝙮𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙖,𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙖 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙞𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙙 𝙏𝙞𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙮. 𝙃𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙖 𝙅𝙚𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙛𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙖 𝙂𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙠.

Tradition says Timothy was between 16 to 20 years old. How did Timothy become a follower of God at such a young age? Remember Paul had been in Lystra before. Somewhere seeds had been planted. Paul had no idea this was going to happen because we don’t always see the big picture.

𝐃𝐎𝐍'𝐓 𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒! This relationship with Timothy and Paul, it came out of a place of deep loss. There was a gaping hole because of the loss of a relationship with Barnabas. That made room for this relationship with Timothy.

Pastor Renee showed us 3 snapshots from the book of Acts and they're really cool. This post is a little long but we don’t want you to miss this. We will post from this message all week to best summarize the powerful message.

Get your Bibles out. Go ahead, I'll wait a minute. :-) Let's look at Acts 15:36-38, 𝘈𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘶𝘭 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘉𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘶𝘴,"𝘓𝘦𝘵'𝘴 𝘨𝘰 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘵 𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘥, 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨. 𝘉𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘑𝘰𝘩𝘯 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘬. 𝘉𝘜𝘛 𝘗𝘢𝘶𝘭 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘴 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘭, 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘑𝘰𝘩𝘯 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘬 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘪𝘯 𝘗𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘭𝘪𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘨𝘦𝘮 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬."

Here we see Paul already had one trip under his belt. This first snapshot starts right before he goes on his second journey. Right away this journey is going to start with unexpected conflict. Paul and Barnabas had been traveling companions and best of friends. Barnabas is the one who took a chance on Paul and now they don’t agree with each other. The two end up in a big conflict.
Barnabas wants to take John Mark and Paul does not want to take him because last time John Mark bailed on them. So they get into a big conflict and it becomes so intense they go their separate ways. Look at Acts: 15:39, 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘴𝘰 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘱 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘴𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥. 𝘉𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘢 𝘵𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘑𝘰𝘩𝘯 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘬 𝘸𝘵𝘩 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘊𝘺𝘱𝘳𝘶𝘴.

𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝗼𝐮 𝐭𝐞𝗺𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝗼 𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬?
Are you tempted to pick sides when you read this? But one of our limitations is that we don’t see the whole picture but we can trust the One who does.

𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝗼𝐮 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐚 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝗼𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐥𝗼𝐬s? This left Paul with a big gaping hole where something used to be. Paul was smart enough to understand he ,couldn't see the whole picture. But Paul DID trust the One who does. Just watch the rest of Acts 16 because God shows up. 𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐂𝐊 𝐈𝐍 𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐭𝗼 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐡𝗼𝐰 𝐆𝗼𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝗼𝐰𝐬 𝐮𝐩!
