We are pleased to share ongoing updates regarding our dedicated Green Burial section, St. Francis Meadow, which is beginning a beautiful transformation into a Wisconsin-native, pollinator-friendly prairie restoration area.

As Catholics, we believe our stewardship participates in God’s unfolding work (CCC 2402, 2415). Just as faith teaches that life springs from death, we are transforming this land to reflect that sacred mystery of renewal. (John 12:24)

What this means for the area:

Phase 1 Preparation:

You may notice our crew frequently mowing the meadow. This is our intentional, chemical-free method to gently exhaust the existing turf and rid the area of the invasive "Bird's Foot trefoil" (Lotus corniculatus), the small yellow flowers currently spreading as ground cover, in order to prepare a clean foundation for native species.

Seeding for the Future:

In late summer and early fall, we will begin broadcasting native wildflower and tallgrass seeds. These seeds are designed to go dormant through the winter, allowing the natural freeze-thaw cycle to help them take root so they can flourish in the coming spring and summer.

Soil Care and Erosion Control:

We currently have plans to introduce native trees and shrubs to actively restore and strengthen the land. Their extensive root systems will manage moisture and stabilize the soil to prevent erosion, while the natural accumulation of leaf litter will enrich the earth and foster a thriving, underground microbiome.

Welcoming Our Wildlife:

By integrating tree species such as Downy Serviceberry (Amelanchier arborea) and Prairie Crabapple (Malus ioensis) on the Eastern section of the Meadow, along with Gray Dogwood (Cornus racemosa) by the western fence line, we hope to enhance this area habitat for local wildlife. These plantings will provide vital food and shelter for birds such as bluebirds, cardinals, robins, wood thrushes, orioles, eastern kingbirds, downy woodpeckers, and scarlet tanagers.

We look forward to seeing this meadow flourish as a vibrant sanctuary for all of our visitors; whether human or animal.

As the 4th of July approaches, and we enter into the summer months, we would like to remind all visitors that while we encourage you to spend time with your loved ones, please remember that this is a cemetery, not a public park, and must be treated as sacred ground.

To maintain a respectful environment for all, any partying (especially those involving drugs and/or alcohol), or activities that depart from a solemn and quiet visit are strictly prohibited.

These rules apply to all visitors without exception. Please respect these grounds and move celebrations to an appropriate location.

Please bear in mind that if an action would be inappropriate inside a church, it is also inappropriate here.

Grave owners will be held strictly liable for any occurrences, damages, or violations of these rules.

We extend our sincerest gratitude to all who participated in today's Memorial Day Mass, especially Fr. Juan, Deacons Ed Benvega and Dan Burmeister, our altar servers, and musicians Anita Momot and Barb Benvega, for this solemn and dignified Mass which paid tribute to the memory of the deceased veterans who have preceded us. We hope to maintain this tradition for years to come. May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace, and may their sacrifice never be forgotten. God bless America.

Please join us for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass this Memorial Day as we gather in prayer and solemn gratitude to remember the men and women of the United States Military who gave their lives in service to our nation.

Fr. Juan will be our celebrant for this special liturgy as we honor their ultimate sacrifice.

As we look forward to the changing seasons, please note that our Annual Spring Cleanup will take place on Monday, March 16. To keep our grounds pristine, all winter and holiday decorations will be gathered starting that morning.

If you have items you wish to keep, please collect them before the 16th. Any salvageable decorations removed by our team will be placed in the designated storage area for pickup. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain the beauty, respect and sanctity of these sacred grounds.
