Bishop Leroy Jackson, Jr. The Church of God in Unity (COGIU) was organized in 1918. Bishop B. Bishop G.

Bass was appointed as the first Bishop in 1921. Bishop Bass served faithfully until his death in 1967. E. Brister succeeded Bass. Bishop Bass had a favorite passage of scripture which he was often heard to quote: “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.” Psalm 133:1. This scripture was adopted as the motto for the COGIU. Bishop Brister served faithfully un

til his death in 1989. He was succeeded in office by the current Presiding Bishop, Leroy Jackson, Jr. The first piece of property purchased was Zion Temple COGIU in Quitman, GA. This property was used as the headquarters church. When the general membership grew, the need for a larger general facility was created. A piece of adjacent property was donated to the COGIU by Ollie and Lizzie. In honor or Olllie and Lizzie, their name “Oll-Lizz” is on the facing of the current headquarters facility.
