Jesus doesn't just want to change your behavior—He wants to transform your heart. In Matthew 5:27-32, Jesus cuts through our image management and gets to what's really happening beneath the surface. Lust, adultery, broken relationships—these don't start with actions. They start in our hearts.

Here's the truth: Jesus comes "full of grace and truth" (John 1:14). He exposes our hidden struggles not to crush us with shame, but to heal us. Sin grows in secrecy, but healing happens in the light. When we bring our brokenness into community—confessing, praying together—transformation begins.

What's the "right eye" or "right hand" in your life that's leading you toward destruction? Jesus calls us to deal radically with sin because He loves us too much to leave us broken. There's hope for every sinner willing to surrender their heart to Christ. He's in the business of making people new.

This teaching takes us deep into Matthew 5:27-32, where Jesus confronts us with uncomfortable truths about lust, adultery, and divorce. What makes this passage so challenging is that Jesus refuses to let us hide behind external compliance. He moves past our carefully managed appearances and speaks directly to the condition of our hearts. We learn that adultery begins long before any physical act, that lust transforms image-bearers of God into objects for our gratification, and that what we cultivate in secret will eventually shape our entire souls. The world tells us that private thoughts are harmless, that looking without touching is acceptable, but Jesus reveals a deeper reality: our internal world matters profoundly. He calls us to radical action, not self-mutilation, but serious confrontation of whatever feeds our temptation. The beautiful truth woven throughout is that Jesus comes with both truth and grace. He exposes our brokenness not to crush us with shame, but to offer healing. The pathway forward involves bringing what is hidden into the light through confession with trusted believers, removing whatever continuously drags us toward sin, and embracing the transformative power of covenant faithfulness in all our relationships.

Glenn Lorenz came to QFMC this past Sunday to share how Jesus came to heal ALL forms of oppression - physical, spiritual, social, and emotional.

This Pentecost Sunday, we were reminded that God anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit and power to go about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil (Acts 10:38).

From the Gadarene demoniac to the woman with the issue of blood, from Zacchaeus to Naaman - Jesus broke through every barrier to bring salvation. And here's the beautiful truth: He's given us that same Holy Spirit power to continue His mission!

We're not on different missions - we're on THE mission of God together. Whether in Quincy or in Africa, God's kingdom is expanding as we heal the broken, welcome the outcast, and proclaim good news. The knowledge of God's glory WILL cover the earth like waters cover the sea.

What does it truly mean when Scripture tells us that Jesus went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil? This powerful message invites us to reconsider the scope of Christ's healing work and our participation in it. Drawing from Acts 10:38 and Luke's Gospel, we're reminded that Jesus didn't just address spiritual needs—He confronted every form of oppression the enemy brings into our lives: physical illness, social exclusion, emotional wounds, and spiritual bo***ge. From the Gadarene demoniac set free from literal demons, to the woman with the issue of blood receiving physical healing, to Zacchaeus being restored to community—Jesus demonstrated that salvation encompasses our whole being. The challenge for us today is profound: we are called to continue this same ministry through the power of the Holy Spirit. On this Pentecost Sunday, we're reminded that God has anointed us just as He anointed Jesus, equipping us to bring holistic restoration to a broken world. The mission of God isn't compartmentalized into spiritual-only concerns; it extends to every area where the devil seeks to oppress humanity. Whether we're caring for bodies, opening our doors in hospitality, providing emotional support, or proclaiming the gospel, we're participating in the singular mission of making God's glory known throughout the earth.
