This story has so much to impact!
Imagine Mary and Martha grieving because their brother is very sick but they know he’s a dear friend of Jesus. They get word to Jesus knowing that Jesus will come. They imagine that He will rush but He doesn’t and they are very frustrated. We can imagine the situation and the pain they’re feeling.
They mutter to themselves why Jesus isn’t there yet. When He heard the news, He actually stayed two more days. No rushing.
Upon arriving, Lazarus had been dead four days and I’m sure Mary and Martha had given up.
Martha greeted Jesus and said, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.
We can see that she’s probably very upset and confused. Even spectators did not understand why Jesus waited.
He asked for the tomb to be rolled away which Martha told Jesus that since he had been dead so long, there would be an odor!
Lazarus come forth! As Jesus said this, you could probably hear a pin drop. Mary and Martha holding their breath wondering what is going to happen!
Lazarus came forth!
Why am I writing about this story? Why did Jesus wait? Why did He hold off?
He could have easily have went and Lazarus would have been healed but there was something greater to do. A resurrection! A miracle!
Greater belief! A man, a friend rose from the dead.
Mary and Martha learned to trust Jesus in the process. They wanted immediate answers and healing. Jesus had a greater plan.
In the journey of this resurrection, the two couldn’t see past right now. A answer right now. Because of that thought process, they assumed Jesus didn’t care.
But He did! How many times do we do the same?
We are inpatient. Jesus is working in our lives, behind the scenes.
We are just like Mary and Martha. Jesus knew what is going on in our lives. He sees just like He did in His dear friend lazarus situation.
If we wait on God, we shall see the promise.
