Dear sisters in Messiah Yeshua:
Take heed, please do not let lustful men masquerading as disciples of the Master take advantage of you to draw you into polygamous relationships with them. If you do it will your choice. Yet, you will be a partner and an enabler of wrong doing. For they teach that polygamy is the Biblical standard for marriage while it is not at all the standard. Per the Scriptures monogamy is the Biblical standard.
The Bible clearly teaches a good marriage is between one man and one woman, but mankind especially scornful people, create controversy and confuse others, all for personal selfish motives.
In the beginning Elohim gave Adam one wife. The Bible indicates no deviation from that pattern until after the flood in Noah's day.
Abram unto his old age had only one wife Sarai
Even though she was barren he never sought another to have a child. It was Sarai later called Sarah who convinced Abram, later called Abraham to take Hagar as a surrogate to have a child.
It wasn't Abraham's initial will, it certainly was NOT Elohim’s will. From that point on, Abraham did not have another wife until after Sarah died.
The outcome of the union with Hagar was blessed because of Elohim's mercy on Abraham, not because it was a good union. For much adversity and hardship resulted from that union to this very day.
Likewise with most if not all polygamous unions stated in Scripture. Issac had only one wife Rebecca, an undefiled union. So, of Issac only Elohim declared and designated the holy seed.
All others were plagued with envy and turmoil among their multiple wives and offspring.
Just look at the mess that occurred with Jacob and his two wives. Poor Jacob, he really wanted only one wife but Laban tricked him. Still the two wives were envious of each other and competed for Jacob's favor and love, that's sad, not at all Elohim’s goodwill.
The children of Jacob were also a mess, they were harsh and hateful, not surprising given the unbecoming situation in which they were conceived and born.
Yes, they were cruel and envious of Joseph, one of their own brothers, to murder him, were it not for one of them who had some sense.
Yet, still all, but a very few of their descendants turned out to be the most sinful and stiffnecked people of all nations. Over and over they rejected Elohim, His prophets, and eventually rejecting His Son, in total disrespect for the Creator of heaven and earth.
Not once did the Bible show polygamy as being the goodwill of Elohim or a wise choice. Elohim in mercy has allowed mankind to do many things. Yet, the outcome shows whether it is wise or foolish.
Thus, regarding marriage, the Biblical consensus shows the goodwill of Elohim is monogamy, not polygamy. Yet, people will choose to reject Elohim, His Son, and His Holy Spirit to do and say as they please, then disparage the Scriptures for their erroneous and scornful ways.
