Asimismo también Rahab la ra**ra, ¿no fue justificada por obras, cuando recibió a los mensajeros, y los envió por otro camino?

Santiago continúa mostrando que la verdadera Fe nunca es estéril ni inactiva. Las acciones de Rahab revelaron la realidad de su Fe. Sus obras no produjeron la salvación, sino que probaron la autenticidad de la Fe que ya tenía en el Dios de Israel. Josué 2 revela que antes de esconder a los espías, ella ya creía que el SEÑOR era el verdadero Dios porque había oído acerca de Sus poderosas obras Redentoras para Israel (Josué 2:9-11). Su corazón ya se había rendido en Fe hacia Dios, y sus acciones se convirtieron en la evidencia externa de esa convicción interna. Las obras de Rahab estaban directamente ligadas a su Fe en el propósito Redentor de Dios. Ella arriesgó su propia vida para proteger a los mensajeros porque creía que Dios estaba entregando la tierra a Israel. Por eso Santiago la usa como ejemplo. La verdadera Fe bíblica siempre mueve el corazón hacia la obediencia a la voluntad revelada de Dios. La Fe que permanece solamente en palabras, sin fruto, está mu**ta porque no está confiando verdaderamente en Dios. Rahab también es un poderoso testimonio de la gracia de Dios. Ella era gentil y ra**ra, pero por medio de la Fe fue introducida en el pueblo del pacto de Dios e incluso colocada en la genealogía de Jesucristo (Mateo 1:5).

Esto revela que la salvación siempre ha sido por Fe y no por mérito humano. Sus obras fueron simplemente el fruto de un corazón que había creído. Lo que Rahab hizo también señala hacia la Cruz. Ella se identificó con el pueblo del pacto de Dios y se separó del mundo condenado de Jericó. El cordón escarlata colgado de su ventana es una hermosa figura de la sangre de Jesucristo, mostrando que la liberación viene solamente por la sangre del Cordero (Josué 2:18, Hebreos 9:22). Su Fe se aferró a la provisión de misericordia de Dios, y sus obras demostraron que su confianza estaba verdaderamente en Él. Pablo y Santiago nunca se contradijeron. Pablo enseñó que somos justificados delante de Dios por la Fe aparte de las obras de la ley (Romanos 3:28), mientras que Santiago enseña que la Fe genuina siempre será vista y justificada delante de los hombres por el fruto que produce. La vida de Rahab prueba que cuando la Fe está viva, las obras seguirán porque el Espíritu Santo está obrando dentro de aquel que cree. Y recordemos que la Fe que nos salvó es la única Fe que está viva y la única Fe que nos permite perseverar hasta el fin para ser salvos (Mateo 10:22, 24:13, Marcos 13:13). ¡Aleluya!

James 2:25
Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

James continues showing that true Faith is never barren or inactive. Rahab’s actions revealed the reality of her Faith. Her works did not create salvation, but they proved the genuineness of the Faith she already had in the God of Israel. Joshua 2 reveals that before she hid the spies, she already believed The LORD was the true God because she had heard of His mighty Redemptive works for Israel (Joshua 2:9-11). Her heart had already yielded in Faith toward God, and her actions became the outward evidence of that inward persuasion. Rahab’s works were directly tied to her Faith in God’s Redemptive purpose. She risked her own life to protect the messengers because she believed God was giving the land to Israel. This is why James uses her as an example. True biblical Faith always moves the heart into obedience toward God’s revealed will. Faith that remains only in words, with no fruit, is dead because it is not truly trusting in God.
Rahab is also a powerful testimony of God’s grace. She was a Gentile and a harlot, yet through Faith she was brought into the covenant people of God and even placed in the lineage of Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:5).

This reveals that salvation has always been by Faith, not by human merit. Her works were simply the fruit of a heart that had believed. What Rahab did also points us to the Cross. She identified herself with God’s covenant people and separated herself from the condemned world of Jericho. The scarlet cord hanging from her window is a beautiful type of the blood of Jesus Christ, showing that deliverance comes only through the blood of the Lamb (Joshua 2:18, Hebrews 9:22). Her Faith laid hold upon God’s provision of mercy, and her works demonstrated that her confidence was truly in Him. Paul and James never contradicted one another. Paul taught that we are justified before God by Faith apart from works of the Law (Romans 3:28), while James teaches that genuine Faith will always be seen and justified before men by the fruit it produces. Rahab’s life proves that when Faith is alive, works will follow because the Holy Spirit is working within the one who believes. And let us remember that the Faith that Saved us is the only Faith that is alive and the only Faith that allows us to endure to the end to be Saved (Matthew 10:22, 24:13, Mark 13:13). Hallelujah!

El Milagro de la Palabra de Dios

Santiago 2:24
Vosotros veis, pues, que el hombre es justificado por las obras, y no solamente por la fe.

Pablo habla de cómo un hombre es justificado delante de Dios por la Fe en Cristo y Su obra consumada. Santiago habla de cómo esa Fe es mostrada como real delante de los hombres. Abraham creyó a Dios, y le fue contado por Justicia, pero cuando ofreció a Isaac, su Fe se hizo visible (fue probada). Así que “no solamente por la Fe” significa no por una afirmación mu**ta y vacía de Fe. La Fe que reposa en Cristo Crucificado producirá obras porque la vida de Cristo está obrando en el Creyente. Las obras no crean Justicia; revelan que la Justicia ha sido recibida por Fe. ¡Oh, la sencillez de Cristo en las Escrituras cuando estamos mirando a través del Cordero inmolado!

Nosotros también, así como Abraham, somos llamados a estudiar la Palabra de Dios para “presentarnos” aprobados ante Dios (2 Timoteo 2:15) y para ser vistos llevando el fruto de la Voluntad de Dios (Romanos 12:2). Decir que tengo Fe no es Fe en absoluto, pero la Fe que obra (Gálatas 5:6) es Fe aplicada al Sacrificio de Cristo con el fruto que procede de esa única fuente de todo lo que es de Dios. No confundamos el fruto de nuestro hacer con el fruto de lo que el Espíritu Santo hace cuando encuentra nuestra Fe siendo mezclada con la Verdad del Evangelio, y NO simplemente con cualquier palabra que nuestra carne anhele. ¡Aleluya!

James 2:24
Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

Paul speaks of how a man is justified before God by Faith in Christ and His finished work. James speaks of how that Faith is shown to be real before men. Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for Righteousness, but when he offered Isaac, his Faith was made visible (proven). So “not by Faith only” means not by a dead, empty claim of Faith. The Faith that rests in Christ Crucified will produce works because the life of Christ is working in the Believer. Works do not create Righteousness; they reveal that Righteousness has been received by Faith. Oh, the simplicity of Christ in the Scriptures when we are looking through the slain Lamb.

We too, just as Abraham, are called to study God’s Word to “show” ourselves approved unto God (2 Timothy 2:15) and to be seen bearing the fruit of God’s Will (Romans 12:2). Saying I have Faith is not Faith at all, but Faith that works (Galatians 5:6) is Faith being applied to the Sacrifice of Christ with the fruit that comes out of that only source of everything that is of God. Let us not confuse the fruit of our doing and the fruit of what The Holy Spirit does when He finds our Faith being mixed with the Truth of the Gospel, and NOT just any Word that our flesh longs for. Hallelujah!

Y se cumplió la Escritura que dice: Abraham creyó a Dios, y le fue imputado por Righteousness, y fue llamado Amigo de Dios.

Santiago vuelve a Génesis 15:6 para mostrar que la obediencia de Abraham al ofrecer a Isaac fue el cumplimiento y la manifestación externa de la Fe que él ya poseía. Abraham fue declarado justo porque creyó a Dios. La Righteousness le fue imputada por la Fe, no ganada por obras. Cuando Santiago dice que la Escritura “se cumplió”, quiere decir que la obediencia posterior de Abraham reveló la realidad y la madurez de la Fe que ya le había sido contada por Righteousness muchos años antes. La ofrenda de Isaac no creó la Righteousness; manifestó la Righteousness que viene por la Fe. Esta es la misma Verdad que Pablo predicó en Romanos 4. Abraham estuvo delante de Dios como justo porque creyó la promesa de que Dios puede justificar al impío (Romanos 4:5). Santiago simplemente muestra que la verdadera Fe no permanece escondida. Si la Fe está viva, eventualmente será vista en obediencia a Dios. El fundamento de la Fe de Abraham fue la promesa concerniente a Cristo. Gálatas 3:16 enseña que las promesas fueron finalmente habladas acerca de la Simiente, la cual es Cristo. La Fe de Abraham miraba hacia adelante a la obra Redentora de Dios, así como nuestra Fe ahora mira hacia atrás a la obra consumada de Cristo en el Calvario.

Por lo tanto, la Righteousness siempre ha sido imputada por medio de la Fe en el plan Redentor de Dios centrado en Su Hijo. “Y fue llamado Amigo de Dios.” Qué declaración tan poderosa. La amistad con Dios no está basada en mérito humano ni en desempeño religioso, sino en una Fe que se rinde a Dios. Abraham confió en el Señor lo suficiente como para entregar aquello que era más precioso para él. Esto reveló comunión, acuerdo y compañerismo con Dios, tal como Jesús enseñó que el hombre no hallará su vida hasta que esté dispuesto a perderla (Mateo 10:39, 16:25). Jesús también dijo a Sus discípulos: “Vosotros sois mis amigos, si hacéis todo lo que yo os mando” (Juan 15:14). Esta obediencia no es esclavitud legalista, sino el fruto del amor y de la Fe obrando juntamente por medio del poder del Espíritu Santo. La Cruz de Cristo es el lugar donde la enemistad es quitada y la reconciliación es lograda, trayendo a los creyentes a una verdadera comunión con Dios. Por medio de la Fe en Cristo crucificado, nosotros también somos acercados y podemos caminar en comunión con el Señor como amigos de Dios.

James 2:23
And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

James reaches back to Genesis 15:6 to show that Abraham’s obedience in offering Isaac was the fulfillment and outward manifestation of the Faith he “already” possessed. Abraham was declared Righteous because he believed God. Righteousness was imputed to him by Faith, not earned by works. When James says the Scripture “was fulfilled,” he means Abraham’s later obedience revealed the reality and maturity of the Faith that had already been accounted to him for Righteousness years earlier. The offering of Isaac did not create Righteousness; it manifested the Righteousness that comes by Faith. This is the same Truth Paul preached in Romans 4. Abraham stood Righteous before God because he believed the promise that God could justify the ungodly (Romans 4:5). James simply shows that true Faith does not remain hidden. If Faith is alive, it will eventually be seen in obedience to God. The foundation of Abraham’s Faith was the promise concerning Christ. Galatians 3:16 teaches that the promises were ultimately spoken concerning the Seed, which is Christ. Abraham’s Faith looked ahead to God’s Redeeming work, just as our Faith now looks back to the finished work of Christ at Calvary.

Therefore, Righteousness has always been imputed through Faith in God’s Redemptive plan centered in His Son. “And he was called the Friend of God.” What a powerful statement. Friendship with God is not based on human merit or religious performance, but upon Faith that yields to God. Abraham trusted the Lord enough to surrender what was most precious to him. This revealed communion, agreement, and fellowship with God, just as Jesus taught that a man will not find his life until he is willing to lose it (Matthew 10:39, 16:25). Jesus also told His disciples, “Ye are my friends, “if ye do” whatsoever I command you” (John 15:14). This obedience is not legal bo***ge, but the fruit of love and Faith working together through the power of the Holy Spirit. The Cross of Christ is the place where enmity is removed and reconciliation is accomplished, bringing Believers into true fellowship with God. Through Faith in Christ crucified, we too are brought near and may walk in communion with the Lord as friends of God.
