Today we welcomed our Assisting Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Bud Shand to St. Philip’s for the Feast of Saints Philip and James. Joining us were parishioners from St. Mary’s-Tyaskin. Their Priest-in-Charge, Rev. Dennis Morgan, concelebrated with Bishop Bud at Eucharist. Fr. Dennis celebrates the 20th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood today! Long-term supply priest, Rev. Nathaniel Pierce, and Archdeacon Laura Harbaugh were also part of the celebration. And, last but certainly not least, St Philip’s new choir, under the direction of Parish Musician Daniel Cherrix, with guest violinist, Christopher Sajadi, provided beautiful music and hymns. Thank you to the Deli at Pecan Square who catered the event with members of the parish providing side dishes. It was a beautiful day!

This stained glass window is a perfect illustration of the temptations of Jesus that we heard in our readings and sermon yesterday.

John Singleton Copley, "The Red Cross Knight," 1793, oil on canvas. The National Gallery of Art. A stunning portrait. I do not know its meaning but it has great detail and intense color.

For those who follow my art posts, I enjoy sharing art for inspiration, for comfort, and appreciation. One of my favorite artists is Winslow Homer. I recently discovered his signature in an exhibition at the National Gallery.
