Based upon the Fiqh Council of North America, fasting will begin 23 March, insha'Allah.

Our beloved Prophet (SAW) said, “There are two blessings which many people lose: Health and free time for doing good” (Bukhari).

Life in this world is temporary, and while everyone needs to rest, we should try to use our time wisely. Focus on doing good deeds, praying on time, and other purposeful activities for the sake of the Almighty.

These cold, short days can cause some people to feel a bit depressed. But, remember that winter is an amazing time for Muslims, because Allah makes worship easy!

If you have missed a fast for a valid reason such as travel or sickness, this is a blessed opportunity to make it up since Maghrib is quite early.

The Prophet (PBUH) is reported to have said:
"Winter is the best season for the believer. Its nights are long for him to pray in, and its days are short for him to fast in."
Hadith-Majma' az-Zawa'id' (3/203)

Being thankful is a core value of Islam.

As we gather with family and friends for our Thanksgiving meal, we are reminded by our faith to be grateful for the blessings given to us by Allah SWT and to give generously to those in need.

"And among them are such as vow unto God, 'If indeed He grant us something out of His bounty, we shall most certainly spend in charity, and shall most certainly be among the righteous!'"
(9:75)

The weather is getting cooler and the leaves will be changing soon. It is a very beautiful time of year, subhanAllah.

May Allah bless us with warmth, guide us through our struggles, and allow us to be successful in our endeavors. Let us remember those in our communities who may need assistance in the form of warm clothing, food, or simply some kind words of encouragement.

The day of Ashura will soon be here.

Remember that you may want to observe Ashura by fasting on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. Insha'Allah, you may be blessed with the reward of having your previous year’s sins forgiven.

"Whoever fasts Ashura, it is as if he has fasted the entire year. And whoever gives charity this day it is like the charity of an entire year." (Recorded by Imam Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali in his Lata’if al-Ma’arif from Abu Musa al-Madini)

Significant events that occurred on this day include:
• Allah SWT accepted the repentance of Prophet Adam (A.S);
• Allah SWT saved Prophet Nuh (A.S) and his companions in the ark;
• Allah SWT spoke directly to Prophet Musa (A.S) and gave him the Ten Commandments upon Mount Sinai.
• The Red Sea was parted as the nation of Israel was delivered from captivity and Pharaoh’s army was destroyed.

The blessed month of Muharram begins soon. It marks the beginning of the Islamic New Year. It is also one of the four most sacred months of the year for Muslims. It is a time of prayer, blessings, reflection and remembrance.
