Today the church dwells in the space between lament and joy.

On June 17th, we remember the Emanuel 9, martyrs, of Charleston, South Carolina (2015), and on June 19th, we celebrate the message of emancipation that reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas (1865), a holiday commonly called Juneteenth.

The truth is that Christianity has always been a vehicle for both good and evil, a justification for violence and oppression on one hand and a tradition of solidarity and resilience on the other. Today we hold both legacies in tension.

God grant us grace to weep with those who weep, and rejoice with those who rejoice. Amen.

Graduate Sunday is tomorrow! Come celebrate our graduating high school seniors.

These four extraordinary teachers are retiring this year, and the district will feel their absence. All four have spent thousands of hours teaching thousands of students about all aspects of music, musicianship, community, and teamwork. These four very talented music teachers have earned their retirement and each leave their own legacy behind. We will miss you. We will not forget you, and your lessons live on through the students taught. THANK YOU Rick, Bob, Linda, & Andy for all that you gave to students through music education!!

At the beginning of the month, Bishop Keith shared this pastoral letter with the people of the Southwestern Washington Synod.

In a time when many voices seek to divide, the church is called to proclaim the good news that God’s love is for all people.

May the congregations of Southwestern Washington continue to be places where every person encounters the welcome, mercy, and love of Jesus Christ.
