The reading for June 10th, 2026, is Proverbs 22-24. This year, we will follow the chronological reading plan, paying close attention to the strategies Satan uses to divert us from following God.
One of the hardest concepts God has called man to is to not take vengeance for wrongs done to us. Many see the death penalty for most violations of the Law of Moses and the idea of “an eye for an eye” and think this was the full teaching of God yet even under the Old Law the idea of grace and mercy were the ways of God. We are told “Do not be a witness against your neighbor for no reason, and do not deceive with your lips. Do not say, ‘I shall do the same to him as he has done to me; I will repay the person according to his work’” (Proverbs 24:28-29 NASB). When we see troubles come upon our enemy we might desire to inwardly cheer. If it brings cheer to your heart this is a deception of Satan. “Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and do not let your heart rejoice when he stumbles, otherwise, the Lord will see and be displeased, and turn His anger away from him” (Proverbs 24:17-18 NASB). One of the things which leads to this type of reaction is anger which we are warned to watch against. “Do not make friends with a person given to anger or go with a hot-tempered person, or you will learn his ways and find a snare for yourself” (Proverbs 22:24 NASB). The problem with taking our own vengeance is neither side is ever satisfied. The person who is retaliated against will think the punishment was more than they deserved or possibly thought they were repaying something done against them so now they have to retaliate to “get even” with the second person. These things only escalate the problem and never bring it to an end. If we will believe God that vengeance is His then we will know He will repay correctly for each person’s actions. “If you say, ‘See, we did not know this,’ does He who weighs the hearts not consider it? And does He who watches over your soul not know it? And will He not repay a person according to his work” (Proverbs 24:12 NASB). Do not be deceived, our vengeance will never bring peace but God’s vengeance will be done righteously and correctly.
Let us not be deceived but know man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness of God. “You know this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Now everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for a man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness of God” (James 1:19-20 NASB). The reading for June 11th, 2026, will be 1 Kings 5-6; 2 Chronicles 2-3. gsf
