A Note from Pastor Ashley

This is a poem I wrote a few years ago, I pray it speaks to you.

Where are you, God? Where can I find you?
Where can I feel your presence?
I am in the dark, searching for your light.
I am cold, desperate for the warmth of your love.
I am in deafening silence, wanting to hear your love song.

I want your light to blast into my darkness.
I want your fire to ignite my heart.
I want your noise to drown out my silence.

But you come to me as a soft, glowing lamp.
You come as a gentle sunbeam drifting through the trees.
You come as a soft songbird, singing in the distance.

I want a huge, dramatic entrance,
And you require me to pay attention,
To notice, to listen.
Open the eyes of my heart, Lord,
Help me to see, to feel, to listen.
And I will praise you with my eyes, my ears, my lips.
I will praise you with my life.

Come, O God, please come.

A note from Pastor Ashley
Your work is important! Whether you work in an office, in a classroom, in a field, in a home, in a hospital, or anywhere else, your work, your vocation has value. Remember who you are working for. Are you working for human beings or for the Lord? When we work for the Lord, when all our work is done for the glory of God, it doesn’t matter if we receive earthly recognition or gain, it matters only that we are glorifying God. “Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters, since you know that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward; you serve the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24

A note from Pastor Ashley
Read Luke 19:1-10.
My brother’s name is Zaccheus, and we always teased him with the song, “Zaccheus was a wee little man…” Siblings can be so mean. But, honestly, I’ve always loved this story. I’m short like Zaccheus (all of 5 feet on a tall day), and often get frustrated by crowds, and people standing in front of me at concerts and events. I identify with Zaccheus not only in height, but I also often feel not worthy of Jesus’ time. But notice this, just as Zaccheus climbed that tree to see Jesus, Jesus was also seeking Zaccheus out. Jesus was looking for Zaccheus! And not only that, invited Zaccheus to dinner, spent time with him, made him feel special and worthy. Jesus is seeking you out too! He wants to spend time with you, he wants you to know you are beloved and special. Thanks be to God!

We need more saints in this world. We don’t need any more politicians, CEOs, entertainers, or geniuses. The world needs more saints. More faithful Christians who are willing to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. More people who are striving to live out the fruits of the spirit, “Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. “ (Galatians 5:22-23).
Are there any saints living today? Hebrews 12:1 says we are “surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses,” saints who have gone before us. Maybe you know a saint in your own life, someone who brought you closer to God, someone who taught you about Jesus, someone who shared their faith. I think back to all of my Sunday School teachers growing up. I don’t remember all of their names, but I do remember all of the love they showed to me. They faithfully planted the seeds of faith in my heart, and trusted God to give growth to those seeds. Those women and men were saints in my childhood. Are there any saints today? I know there are. Humble, faithful Christians, living their daily lives in love and devotion to their Savior, Jesus Christ.
We are called to be the saints in this world. “Let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1) The church and the world need more saints. We need you.
Have a grateful week! -Pastor Ashley
