Message from the Desk of Rev. Troy Pickens

“Can You Be Real in Church?”
- Psalm 34:18

So many people walk into church carrying pain, disappointment, fear, and brokenness while pretending everything is fine. But God never asked us to perform for Him — He asks us to come honestly.

Psalm 34:18 reminds us that “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” God draws near to the hurting, the weary, and the struggling. Church should not be a place where we hide our scars, but a place where healing begins.

Being “real” in church means allowing God to meet the authentic version of us — not the polished image we try to present to others. It means trusting that grace is available even in our mess, and understanding that transparency creates room for transformation.

You do not have to have it all together to come into God’s presence. The brokenhearted are welcome here.
