I just think that this is pretty cool. Around 500 or so years before Jesus was born there was a prophet named Zechariah. As the people of Israel left captivity in Babylon an returned to their homeland, they had a high priest Joshua. Not the same Joshua from the time of of Moses but some one different.
Zechariah them writes the following vision in Chapter.
"Then he showed me the high priest Joshua standing before the angel of the Lord and the accuser standing at his right hand to accuse him. 2 And the Lord said to the accuser,“The Lord rebuke you, O accuser! The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is not this man a brand plucked from the fire?” 3 Now Joshua was wearing filthy clothes as he stood before the angel. 4 The angel said to those who were standing before him, “Take off his filthy clothes.” And to him he said, “See, I have taken your guilt away from you, and I will clothe you with festal apparel.” 5 And he said, “Let them put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him with apparel, and the angel of the Lord was standing by."
So this high priest by the name of Joshua stands before God and Satan the accuser. The high priest, took on the sin of the people so he is described as one who wears filthy clothes. God steps in, removes all sin from the high priest and puts on a new apparel for the high priest.
What makes this so cool to me is that the Joshua in Greek is translated into Jesus. If you then put Jesus in place of Joshua it takes a whole new powerful meaning. I am not say that Joshua the high priest was Jesus. I am say that God's word and vision does come true.
God Bless and thank God it is Friday.
