Tennessee’s 2025–26 statewide gun season for deer opens Saturday, Nov. 22!

The season runs through Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026, across all six of Tennessee’s Deer Management Units (DMUs).

During gun season, hunters may also use muzzleloaders or archery equipment. The statewide bag limit for antlered bucks is two, with no more than one per day.
• In DMUs 1, 2, and 3, the antlerless bag limit is three per day.
• In DMUs 4, 5, and 6, the limit is two antlerless for the season.

Bag limits may only be exceeded through the Earn-A-Buck program or when taking a replacement buck in a CWD-positive county.

TWRA recommends that all hunters pick up the 2025–26 Tennessee Hunting and Trapping Guide. It includes license requirements, bag limits, and county details for each DMU. The guide is available on the TWRA website, the TWRA On The Go App, and anywhere licenses are sold.

Anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1969, must carry proof of hunter education or have an Apprentice Hunter Education Permit (along with required licenses) while hunting in Tennessee. Hunter education is available online for free and through in-person classes offered by TWRA.

Stay safe, and good luck this season!

Today is National First Responder Day

When emergencies happen in Tennessee’s woods, waters, and wild places — our TWRA officers are often the first to respond. From search and rescue missions to wildlife enforcement, they stand ready to serve and protect every day.

On National First Responder Day, we thank all who serve on the front lines — especially our dedicated TWRA officers. 💚

🎨 Calling All Young Tennessee Artists! 🐟

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) is inviting K–12 students across the state to show off their creativity in the Art of Conservation: Fish Art Contest!

This free national contest, created by nonprofit Wildlife Forever, encourages youth to connect with the outdoors by submitting their original artwork of a Tennessee native fish in its natural habitat. Students may enter one 2D and one 3D piece, and photo or video inspiration is welcome — just no replicas of another artist’s work. (Goldfish, guppies, bettas, and koi aren’t eligible.)

🎣 New this year: TWRA is introducing the Bill Dance Signature Lakes Award, honoring the legacy of fishing legend Bill Dance and celebrating Tennessee’s premier fishing destinations! To qualify, submit artwork featuring largemouth or smallmouth bass or bass fishing scenes.

🗓️ Deadline: February 28, 2026
📲 Learn more & submit your artwork here: https://www.theartofconservation.org/fish-art-contest (link in bio if on Instagram)

Let your imagination swim wild — we can’t wait to see your artistic take on Tennessee’s amazing fish!
