A Tale of Two Cellblocks
“No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him” (Jn. 6:44). The
Saviour draws the lost in three major ways…1. Spirit of God (Job 32:8, Prov 20:27, Rom. 1:19).
2. Scriptures of God (Psa. 119:130). 3. Servant of God. That’s what I am…I’m nobody trying to
tell somebody about a Saviour that will save anybody.
A few weeks back in Santa Rosa Prison, FL (3,000 in solitary confinement), I encountered a
terrified man in the first cell I worked (1 Cor. 3:9). The night before, this trembling soul heard a
step at 3:00 a.m.in his 8x8 disciplinary cell on his last night in the hole. My ears perked up when
he said “step”. However, every hair on my body stood at attention when he added… “It was a
hoof”. My mind was scrambling…how would a young lost sinner know that Satan is often depicted
as a bull or goat or about “the bulls of Bashan” (Psa. 22:12) or the “molten calf” (Exod. 32)? This
one was literally scared straight into the waiting arms of the Son of God.
In the very next cell, was a man named Titus in great consternation. His mother was Hindu and
his father was Muslim (Sura 9:5, Koran). His exact words were “you’re not going to believe this.
I was in D3 yesterday and was moved to G2 this morning. I’ve been praying that God would send
someone because I’ve been so confused (1 Cor. 14:33) for so long and here you are…”, as he
slowly shook his head in amazement. Needless to say, our precious Lord (1 Pet. 2:7) untangled his
mind (2 Cor. 11:3) and wrote his name in the Lamb’s Book of Life (Rev. 21:27).
Last week I got the greatest convict compliment I’ve ever received when I walked into an
unusually loud cellblock, whatever set this particular unit off, I do not know…it doesn’t take much.
As soon as I entered, someone on the top tier shouted over the roar in a commanding voice:
“QUIET!... Man of God in the house.” Now that will help you… (Prov 27:2).
23.5% of hate crimes in America target religious institutions (churches, Christian schools,
etc.) Church security without appropriate training have too often resulted in additional
deaths and criminal charges of church members who were only trying to help. See enclosed
