Symbols of the Apostles

Symbols of the Apostles

✝️ 𝗦𝗬𝗠𝗕𝗢𝗟𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝟭𝟮 𝗔𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗟𝗘𝗦

In Christian art, the Apostles are often identified by symbols associated with their lives, ministries, or martyrdom. These symbols help us remember their witness to Jesus Christ and the spread of the Gospel.

1. ✝️ 𝗦𝗧. 𝗣𝗘𝗧𝗘𝗥 — 𝗞𝗘𝗬𝗦

The keys symbolize the authority given to Peter by Christ.

"I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 16:19)

2. ✝️ 𝗦𝗧. 𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗥𝗘𝗪 — 𝗫-𝗦𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗘𝗗 𝗖𝗥𝗢𝗦𝗦

According to tradition, Andrew was crucified on an X-shaped cross, now known as St. Andrew's Cross.

Philip is often depicted with a cross, representing his preaching and missionary work.

Thomas is traditionally believed to have been martyred with a spear while preaching the Gospel.

The Apostles left everything to follow Christ. Through their preaching, sacrifice, and faithful witness, the Gospel spread throughout the world.
