See My Lawyer
June 2, 2026

“But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous."
1 John 2:1 (ESV)

Every time you sin, someone is lurking in the shadows waiting to drag you into court.

Revelation 12:10 calls him the accuser of our brothers, the one bringing charges before God day and night. And here is what makes him so dangerous. He is a prosecuting attorney who wants to give you the spiritual death penalty every single time you blow it.

And this is the one time the devil doesn't lie.

Let me show you what I mean. I get impatient with Ruth, and the devil accuses, "Did you see how he just spoke to her?" I have a lustful thought, and the devil says to the judge, "Did you see what he just thought?" I miss a chance to share the gospel and cop out completely. "What are you going to do about it?" Every charge is true. I start to speak up in my own defense, but I have nothing to say.

Then I remember I have an Advocate. That word means somebody who pleads your case, your defense attorney, and His name is Jesus Christ the righteous. He is a very unusual defense attorney. Jesus doesn't maintain the innocence of His clients. He acknowledges their guilt. But are you ready for this? He has never lost a case.

Here is why. He is Jesus Christ the Righteous, and He is the only person in that courtroom besides the Judge who has never sinned. More than that, the Judge is his Father.

He doesn't have to lie to get you off the hook, and He won't. Jesus is just going to tell the truth, that He has already paid for your crime in full.

Every time the devil comes to you and says, "Look what you did!" all you have to say is this. See my lawyer.

Prayer: Father, I know the charges the enemy levels against me are true. I have no defense of my own. But I am grateful beyond words that I have an Advocate who stands before You on my behalf. Thank You that Jesus has already paid for every sin the accuser can name. I rest in that today. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

The Danger Of A Lukewarm Faith
June 1, 2026

"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth." - Revelation 3:15-16

In the book of Revelation, we encounter a sobering message from the Lord Jesus to the church in Laodicea. They were neither fervently passionate nor completely indifferent, but instead, they had become lukewarm in their faith. They had lost their zeal and allowed complacency to settle in. Jesus warns them about the dangerous consequences of such a state.

Lukewarmness in our faith is a perilous condition. It robs us of the fire and fervor that should accompany our relationship with God. It renders us ineffective and vulnerable to the temptations and trials of the world. When we become lukewarm, we risk losing sight of God's truth, His will, and His purpose for our lives.

Jesus desires that we be either hot or cold. He longs for our hearts to burn with passion and dedication for Him, or for us to recognize our need and seek His transformative power. Being lukewarm indicates a lack of wholehearted commitment to the Lord. It reveals a divided loyalty and a compromised faith.

Today, let us examine our hearts. Are we truly on fire for God, seeking to know Him intimately and to fulfill His purpose for our lives? Or have we allowed the distractions and cares of this world to cool our passion? Have we become comfortable in our faith, settling for a lukewarm existence? I'd encourage you to take your time and answer these questions with honesty and sincerity.

Let us heed the warning given to the Laodiceans and make a sincere effort to rekindle the flame of our devotion. Let us repent of our lukewarmness and ask the Holy Spirit to stir within us a burning love for God and a fervent desire to serve Him with all our hearts. May we be known as disciples who are on fire for God, zealous in spreading the good news of His love and redemption.

Dear Heavenly Father, forgive me for my lukewarmness in my faith. I confess that I have allowed complacency to settle in, and I have lost the passion and zeal for You. Holy Spirit, reignite the fire within me. Help me to pursue You with wholehearted devotion and to walk in obedience to Your Word. Give me the strength to resist the temptations of this world and to boldly share the Gospel with others. May my life reflect the transformation that only You can bring. In Jesus' name, amen.

We mostly focus on David and Goliath, but miss a terrifying detail about the Israeli soldiers.
We assume they were afraid because they didn't know what God could do.
These men were raised on their ancestors' oral traditions.
They knew about the Red Sea splitting in half.
They knew about the walls of Jericho collapsing flat without a single battering ram.
They knew about the sun standing still in the sky for Joshua.
They knew God was powerful.
They knew the history.
They had the theology memorized.
And yet, when they saw the giant, they ran.
That is the scary reality of fear. You can know everything God has done in the past, and still feel completely overwhelmed by what is standing in front of you right now.
You know God is a healer, but your hands still shake when you read the terminal diagnosis.
You know God is a provider, but you still feel sick to your stomach when you lose your job with no savings in the bank.
You know He is faithful, but the depression feels stronger than the scripture you are trying to quote.
Fear does not mean you've lost your faith. It just means you are human. It means the battle in front of you is screaming more than the memory behind you.
But the good news is your fear does not limit God. He didn't send Goliath home because the soldiers were scared. He showed up to help their unbelief.
David didn't have a better sword than the soldiers. He just had a better definition of the problem.
While the soldiers called Goliath a "Giant," David called him "Uncircumcised."
That wasn't an insult; it was a legal classification.
David was saying, "This man is outside of the covenant. He has no legal right to win."
Stop addressing your situation by its medical name, its financial name, or its emotional name.
Address it by the Covenant.
It doesn't mean you are denying the reality before you or being ignorant. It does not mean the anguish doesn’t exist or that it doesn't matter. You are just defining it differently.
If God has said He will never leave you, then that loneliness is "uncircumcised."
If God has said He is your provider, then that debt is "uncircumcised."
It has no standing in the court of Heaven, no matter how overwhelming or realistic it may be.
The giant might be loud, but he is standing on illegal ground.

We Worship Together
May 31, 2026

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching."
Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV)

What's your response when someone says, "I love Jesus but don't need church"?

Francis Chan once made a sobering observation about people who choose to disconnect from church while claiming to love Jesus. He pointed to Paul's words in 1 Timothy, where Paul speaks of handing rebellious believers over to Satan by removing them from church fellowship. Chan noted, "It is crazy to me that we live in a time when people are voluntarily doing this to themselves! No church has placed them outside of the fellowship; instead they handed themselves over to Satan!"

In John, chapter four, Jesus Jesus speaks to a woman from Samaria about worship. Throughout the exchange, He uses plural language—"true worshipers"—because worship is both corporate and personal. The church isn't merely a helpful option for spiritual growth; it's essential to your faith journey.

In nearly five decades of pastoral ministry, I've never met a single believer who grew more spiritually mature, more holy, and more aligned with God's will while separated from the church. As pastor Kevin DeYoung has said, "The man who attempts Christianity without the church shoots himself in the foot, shoots his children in the leg, and shoots his grandchildren in the heart."

Corporate worship provides something your private devotions alone cannot—the strength, accountability, and encouragement that comes through connecting with Christ's body.

When you worship alongside other believers, you experience a foretaste of eternity. As today’s verse instructs, do not give up meeting together and you will receive the encouragement and spiritual strength that only comes as we worship together.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You that Your Word says in Psalm 68:6 that You place the lonely in families. Help me see that the community of faith is part of Your design for me. Where I want to isolate myself, remind me of the promise of faith and encouragement that comes through community. I praise You for it in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

The Equation
May 30, 2026

" If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:9 (NIV)

One thing I have always loved about math is that there are no gray areas. You cannot argue over the answer. You cannot say "you have your truth and I have mine." One plus one is always two, no matter who does the calculation and no matter how they feel about it. The equation does not negotiate.

John gives us an equation that works exactly the same way. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9, ESV). Conviction + confession = cleansing. Every time, without exception, no matter how long you have been carrying it or how many times you have failed before.

When God convicts you, that is His invitation, never condemnation. When you feel uneasy after choosing compromise again after promising you wouldn't, that is not just guilt. That is the Holy Spirit refusing to let go of you. The fact that your sin still bothers you is one of the clearest signs that you actually belong to God.

The right response is not to try harder or feel bad longer. It is to name it and let Him do what He promised. You do not have to hope you will be forgiven. The equation is already solved. Confession is your side, and cleansing is His.

One plus one has never once come out wrong. Neither has God’s equation for forgiveness and cleansing. Do your part, let Him do His, and receive the forgiveness and freedom He promises.

Prayer: Father, thank You that Your forgiveness is not a possibility I have to hope for, it is a certainty I can count on. Today I am doing my part. I am naming it and handing it over, trusting You to cleanse me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
