We were back at the Odd Fellows section of the Pioneer Cemetery this morning. We did something a little different this time, we worked the GPR in the block closest to the school in the southwest corner. Few graves are found here and we needed to see if that particular cemetery block was empty and no graves. What we did find was about 15 places that might have had a grave, 5 confirmed graves with headstones and two now known graves where two stones had been covered by vegetation and are now exposed. One of the stones was face down while the other was face up. When all graves are found, these tombstones will be placed upright where they belong.

Yesterday the GPR operator and myself were in the Odd Fellows portion of the cemetery. We are at the point now where we are beginning to mark known graves with red or white flag markers. Red for confirmed graves and white for suspected graves. If you go through that section, please leave the flags in place. If you are walking or driving by and see someone removing them, please stop and explain to them the reason behind what they are for.

The GPR is back to work. Weather, heat and rain kept us indoors until today. Went back to the Odd Fellows and picked up where we left off. Confirmed about 8 to 10 more graves with headstones and found two, possibly three without stones as well as another stone, but no grave. This whole grave hunt can get very confusing at times. A teacher and her assistant joined us and we talked about the plans for the cemetery. As we explained to them, this is a job where we need adults to move dirt and w**d the blocks and lots. Any one want a prickly pear cactus? We have an excess. This going to be a long term job to revitalize this area of the old cemetery. We need to also come up with a task for students from the school can get involved.

On April 22, about 8:00 a.m. someone broke the drivers side window, gained access to the inside and hotwired my 1996 F150 short bed red and white pickup. The police were notified shortly after the theft took place. I've posted on my facebook account and the search is on for its return. It was parked in the driveway located on the 400 block W. 23rd St. License number Colorado DV149C. If seen, do not stop it or go near, but notify the police. The picture is NOT the truck, but the year, shape and color are the same.

We had great plans for getting over to the cemetery, unfortunately mother nature wasn't on our side. If it it isn't snowing, its too muddy to use the GPR. So a current report of the progress so far is in order. Twenty graves have been recorded so far, of which 19 had headstones and one grave without a stone. A headstone was found where there isn't a grave, indicating, at first thought that the stone had been moved; why, is any bodies guess. Once the snow is pretty much gone and the ground becomes more solid and less liquid the GPR will become more active. Research of the people who are buried here is going to be a problem. No records (that we know of) were kept so newspaper clipping and history on some of the pioneers may come to light. Hopefully someone out there might have more information and possibly old photographs of what the cemetery looked like before 1960.

Bummer! Due to health reasons, we won't be going over to the cemetery this afternoon as we had planned. Maybe the next warm Sunday later this month. Life gets in the way of plans sometimes.

This weekend may be one of the last time we could get out with the GPR in the I.O.O.F. cemetery before winter and the cold put a stop to our operations. Sunday looks good so far and I think we can get over there by 2:00 or shortly after. Anyone interested can swing by and chat if you are interested.
