Today, there is just so much to be thankful for. I am truly thankful for the mission God placed on our hearts and that He continues to grow in ways that leave me in awe.
Today, we had several new servers from St Paul the Apostle-- Ms. Carol, Ms. Jane, Mr. Chuck-- together along with One-Way Street Ministry veterans Ms. Coco, Mr. Don and my family we served around 165-170 plates of food. Ms Coco even generously drove to deliver food to some little kiddos over by Central HS so that they could have dinner tonight. Truly, I am so grateful for every helping hand and every generous donation that made today possible.
A special thank you to Farmer’s Cut for donating 40 pounds of ground pork and to Mary Wietzke and her family for donating chicken, beef, tortillas, beans, and rice. Ms. Tiffany Vrell turned those donations into delicious three-meat and black bean burritos with Spanish rice. We served it with watermelon & strawberries, green tossed salad with cucumbers and snap peas, Ms Coco's German chocolate cake and lemonade and bottles of water.
We are also so thankful for the financial assistance from the St. Paul the Apostle Knights of Columbus, which allowed us to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables and lemonade. We also had donations of milk, breakfast sandwiches and more fresh veggies from multiple elementary schools. Ms. Jeanne Stalcar's contributions toward our PBJ lunches helped us make 75 sack lunches that included Girl Scout cookies from Rebecca's brownie troop, fresh oranges and granola bars, and every single one was given out today. Ms. Sandy donated dog food and clothing donations came from St. Paul the Apostle and Ms. Carol.
What amazes me most is that we used every single thing that came to us to help provide to so many new faces. We served for nearly two hours until there was nothing left.
One of the greatest gifts has been getting to know our regulars and even some of the new faces by name. Some of the regulars now ask my son Peter about fishing and whether he has caught anything lately. It no longer feels like a food line — it feels like a Sunday family picnic — and I truly hope our brothers and sisters feel that shift too.
I believe God is leading more and more people to our little Sunday picnics. Today, a young family came with two little girls, probably around three years old. We were able not only to provide them with dinner, but also send them home with a crate of milk donated by one of the elementary schools and the last of the PBJ sandwiches. Its like God knew and He provided for them.
God is so good.
We are beyond thankful to everyone who continues to make this ministry possible. We could not do it without you. Yours in Christ- Kate
