Among others, we will have a special guest Rabbi Yossi Laufer who grew up going to the synagogue speak about his experience there and the importance of Jewish identity and zionism today. Zoe Baker invited Shelley Parness back to present in her second exhibition in her series, “Holding Space” about the historic Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Smith Hill. This time community members joined at Rochambeau library for the event. Contact us for a private or group tour of the building and artifacts.

Rhode Island Jewish Museum hosted 15 Students with PC Professor Carmine Perrotti to explore how the historical artifacts housed at 24 Douglas Avenue can impact the inclusion of the Arts with the Smith Hill Community. Students were led on a tour narrated by Zo Baker, curator, and Larry and Shelley Parness, Executive Board members. They shared the many nostalgic stories, elaborated on the countless historical artifacts, pointed out the many religious features of the two sanctuaries and awed them with the original frozen in time murals and breathtaking lighting adorning the walls and ceilings throughout the building. Light refreshments and a warm, heimaish (cozy), discussion followed the tour to complete the experience.
