This post is from a ministerial colleague, Jeff Bruce, co-minister at FCC Glasgow. With his permission, I thought it was important to share how & why giving to Week of Compassion is the best way we can assist in times like the tornadoes of 2021.

FCC family,
Please continue to pray for all of our fellow Kentuckians who have been tragically affected by the severe storms and tornadoes last night. 50-100 people are thought to have perished and many more have been injured or suffered damage to their homes or business. Reports are that FCC Mayfield has been destroyed.

20 years. I can remember where I was and the roller coaster of emotions I was feeling on September 11th, 2001. God be with all the families who were scared for life from the events of that day. 😔😢

WEST AREA PRAYER CHAIN (August 1-7)

Entering August, let's join in prayer for the people who previously gathered together as First Christian Church of Nortonville. During this pandemic winter, the leaders of First Christian Church of Nortonville discerned that they had held their last worship together and that it was time for them to work toward closure. Leaders will work with the Christian Church Foundation to leave a legacy of ministry that will outlast their church membership.

The church was established in 1909, and in 1920 they built on land purchased from the Norton Coal Company. They began worshiping in their building on October 23, 1921. This fall would have celebrated almost 100 years that First Christian Nortonville faithfully witnessed and served God on the corner of Oak and Church St. in their the railroad and coal mining town.

Among the young pastors to be shaped by this congregation was the Rev. Billy Williams, who went on to later serve as West Area Minister. First Christian's legacy continues to make a significant impact far beyond its history. Thank you, First Christian Church of Nortonville, for your witness, your dedication, and your service among us.
