St Mary's - FSSP - Catholic Church, Providence, RI St. Mary’s Church is one of our state’s most historic parishes, erected in 1853. In 2018, Bishop Thomas J. Tobin entrusted the care of St.

Mary’s to the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP) to establish a Traditional Latin Parish. Mary’s Church is a Traditional Latin Mass Parish in the Diocese of Providence, Rhode Island. One of our state’s most historic parishes, St. Mary’s was erected in 1853. The current Gothic church, built of Westerly Granite, was completed in 1869 and consecrated on June 7, 1901. On its centenary in 1953, Bi

shop Russell McVinney described St. Mary’s as an “illustrious and venerable parish, that bespeaks the vibrant dynamic faith of the Catholics of this area. Mary’s is venerable not so much for its centenary of life, as for its distinguished record of Catholic loyalty and devotedness. It is illustrious indeed for the stalwart faith of its people.”

In 2018, His Excellency Thomas J. Tobin, Bishop of Providence entrusted the care of St. Peter (FSSP) to establish a Traditional Latin Mass Parish for the faithful in Rhode Island and the surrounding areas. All Masses and Sacraments are offered in accordance with the liturgical books of 1962, as expressed in the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum of Pope Benedict XVI. A full parochial life with catechism, sacramental preparation, devotions, and groups of formation for the youth is offered at St. Mary’s, we live in the hope that one day, by the grace of God, we will closely resemble the description of the parish given just 69 years ago.

It was a perfect day for our Corpus Christi procession. About 400 walked the neighborhood with Our Lord. Those who witnessed were respectful with smiles and signs of the cross.

We attended two First Masses! Fr Shane Conlon celebrated his First Mass at Carmel of Jesus, Mary and Joseph in Valparaiso. Home of the The Carmelite Sisters who devote their lives to prayer, strive to live a life hidden with Christ, and honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a beautiful and intimate chapel. Father’s Deacon was Fr Joseph Falciano who’s Mass we attended just before! We will post Fr Falciano’s pictures in a day or two!
