HISTORY: Prospect Methodist Church is the Mother of Methodism in Prince Edward County having organized about 1800. The original building stood on the site of the present cemetery. About 1000 people were converted. The present building was erected in 1859. It was remodeled in 1919. The village of Prospect was named for Prospect Church. General Grant's Army camped on the church grounds when on thei

r way to Appomattox. They bored holes in the weather boarding and inserted wooden pegs for clothes racks. The holes still exist, but are covered by one of the class rooms. - Auther Unkown (Information taken from back of decrative plate.)
