Snow and rain are mixing with temps hovering above freezing, and the slush is building up quickly. Forecasts show temperatures dropping below freezing and staying there until mid-morning Sunday.

Our church family is largely made up of senior citizens and golden agers who rightly worry about slipping and falling getting to and from their vehicles.

The decision was made to be proactive and cancel our 11 AM worship service for this Sunday, January 18th.

We trust you’ll stay warm, stay safe, and say a little prayer from the comfort of your home.

This is Downeast Maine, after all, and we know Old Man Winter still has a mind of its own.

I was shocked to hear about Hunter Clements's passing.

Hunter grew up in our Prospect Harbor United Methodist Church. He, his brother Will, his sister Lex, and their mother, Kendra, were fixtures at our church for a long time.

Rest In Peace, Hunter. God be with you till we meet again.

Share Memories and Support the Family.

A longtime member of our church passed away on Monday.

I made a quick video of my experiences with Mike Hall.

He first welcomed me to Prospect Harbor UMC in 2007 and was active in leading the Prospect Harbor UMC Men’s Group.

I joined him for a Men's Retreat at the Dow Pines Recreation Area. Mike was our head cook and made us his “Killer Chili”. No one was killed but the following two pictures tell…the rest of the story.

Mike played the guitar and served faithfully as a backup for Pastor Nurse and then Pastor Hammond.

Mike himself was even up on the podium a few times, giving sermons.

Check out the picture of him up on the altar with our then newest PIT (Pastor-In-Training). Unfortunately, our PIT only spoke in tongues.

He often brought his family, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews to church, encouraging them to be part of the congregation.

In later years, Mike stepped back from regular worship attendance. Despite our efforts to reach out, following the loss of his wife, Maureen, he became increasingly withdrawn.

I just learned, talking to his sister Brenda, that Mike was a Navy veteran.

Fair Winds and Following Seas, my friend and shipmate.

Me to ChatGPT: Our church bell rope broke. Write a 75-word synopsis of a broken church bell rope in the style of Ernest Hemingway's phrase, “Ask not for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The bell rope hung broken, frayed by time and weather, silent above the now-empty pews.

Once, it called the village to worship.

Now it swings uselessly in the draft, a ghost of sound withheld.

Ask not why it fails, nor who shall mend it.

For when the bell is mute, the silence is ours, and it waits for thee.

Note: I get by with a little help from my Church and ChatGPT.

Wow! A great day for our "Fish Chowdah Suppah."

To paraphrase "Field of Dreams",
If we cook it, they will come."

We had a Maine Twofer. Others call it a Win-Win!

Win 1: We served over 70 people! These were generous family, friends, community, and visitors who joined us for our Last Supper.

Okay, it's actually our Last Supper for the year.

This is yet another excellent demonstration of a church & community pulling together.

Win 2: We had great food, great helpers, and great community support. We raised over $900!

The money raised goes towards our General Church Fund, and 10% goes to the Pastor's Discretionary Fund (PDF).

This PDF allows us to help the less fortunate in our local community with heating and utilities. It also allows us to help local families with other necessities.

He doesn’t always attend Chowdah suppahs…
but when he does, it’s legendary.

Don’t stay hungry, my friend!
Join the ‘Most Interesting Man In The World’ for the most flavorful evening this side of the Atlantic, if you dare, at the Fish Chowdah Suppah.

It’s tomorrow, Saturday, September 13th, from 4 to 6 PM at the
Prospect Harbor United Methodist Church.

This isn’t just a fish chowdah. It’s a *culinary expedition*. A haddock chowdah so flavorful, the tides themselves pause to admire it.

For 25 years now, Prospect Harbor will gather in one place this Saturday, the Prospect Harbor United Methodist Church, to taste fish chowdah so legendary that sailors have turned their ships around just for a bowl.

Come for the chowdah. Stay for the 15+ pies—each one more irresistible than the last.

Each one is smoother than a jazz saxophone solo and richer than a pirate’s plunder.

Prices remain delightfully old-fashioned because greatness doesn’t need inflation to prove its worth.

Adults: $10.
Children 5–12: $5.
Children under 5: FREE.

To quote our Most Interesting Man,
“I don’t always eat chowdah… but when I want to enjoy a Fish Chowdah Suppah, I go to the Prospect Harbor United Methodist Church."

Note: I get by with a little help from my friends and ChatGPT.

Okay, it’s actually our Last Supper...

The end of Summer means it's time again for our famous Annual Fish Chowder Supper, which has a 25-year history and old-fashioned prices.

The Fish Chowdah Suppah will be held at the Prospect Harbor United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 13th, from 4 PM to 6 PM.

Afterward, top off that meal with a dessert or two.
With 15+ pies, I’m sure we’ll have a slice that you’ll enjoy.

Our prices are still:
Adults: $10
