Dear People of Messiah,

Tomorrow will be the Day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit was poured out on the apostles, as recorded in Acts 2. Please join us for worship at 10:30am. Monday will be Memorial Day, so tomorrow we will remember in our prayers members of our armed forces who have given their lives for us. We will also pray for safe travel for Princeton University alumni visiting campus this weekend for reunions.

Dear People of Messiah,

This Sunday, May 10, we'll hear from the Acts of the Apostles about the apostle Paul's visit to Athens. The account in Acts 17:16-34 is a classic -- a model of evangelism among polytheists in a culture with a long and distinguished intellectual, philosophical tradition. Lots of parallels to central NJ today. In our Gospel Lesson from John 14, Jesus says, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments" -- scary for those of us who are imperfectly obedient. He also promises, however, not to leave us orphaned, and that he will send another advocate (sometimes translated helper, counselor, or comforter): the Spirit of truth. That's encouraging, and a reminder of how precious truth is.

Sunday is Mothers Day, so bring mothers, bring children, bring husbands and fathers -- bring yourself to worship Sunday morning at 10:30. You won't want to miss it.

See you then,
Pastor Martin

Dear People of Messiah,

This Sunday, May 3, will be the fifth Sunday of Easter. Please join us for worship at 10:30am, where our scripture readings will include Luke's account of the martyrdom of Stephen (Acts 7), encouraging words from 1 Peter 2 about growing into salvation, and Jesus' declaration in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Our Communion Hymn (LBW 513) will be a reflection on those words by the poet George Herbert -- a musical setting of his poem, The Call, published in 1633.

See you Sunday,
Pastor Martin
