PURPOSE
Strengthen, support, and develop Children’s Ministries at First United Methodist Church of Princeton for the children (birth through 5th grade)
Organize and provide leadership of approved programs
Enhance and expand the Children’s Ministries in cooperation with the Education Committee and Administrative Board
Provide expertise to the Education Team
POSITION SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Understands and accepts the mission, theology, and doctrine of FUMC
Follows the teachings of Jesus Christ
Possesses character and integrity
Able and willing to share faith based issues with young children
Works enthusiastically with young children
Desire to develop our Children’s Ministry programs to lead young children to grow in their understanding of Jesus Christ and the teachings (doctrines) of the United Methodist Church.
Openness to creative and future looking ministry opportunities
Completes successfully the background check
Resides locally (preferred)
At least 21 years of age
Possesses 2-4 years experience in successfully working with young children (preferred)
LINE OF ACCOUNTABILITY
The Director of Children’s Ministries reports to the Pastor and Administrative Board, while working in conjunction with the Education Committee.
The Pastor and the Staff Parish Relations Committee will each conduct evaluations as described in the FUMC of Princeton Personnel Policies Manual.
A member from the Staff Parish Relations Committee will be assigned to act as the liaison between this position and the Staff Parish Relations Committee
RESPONSIBILITIES
Research and evaluate the potential success of former and existing Children’s Ministries:
o Sunday morning programs
o Vacation Bible School
o Mission Possible Kids
o Thursday afternoon Kid’s Club
o Acolytes
o Nursery
o Special Events
Research and evaluate the potential success of other Children’s Ministries including:
o On-site
o Off-site
o Joint with other church(s)
o Technology based
o Other
Provide recommendations to Education Committee for children’s ministries based on potential to successfully draw participation and ability to expand participants understanding or their relationship with Jesus Christ.
Work to successfully implement the approved children’s ministries.
Be present at scheduled educational events
Be present most Sundays morning for one worship service
Ensure all programs comply with Safe Sanctuaries guidelines
Recruit, train and schedule volunteers to ensure all ministry programs are fully staffed with appropriate leadership
Encourage and plan special activities for children.
Encourage child participation in the United Methodist camping program.
Provide communication to the church members and the general public about children’s ministries at the church and beyond.
Create the annual budget proposal with input from Education Committee.
Plan and hold recognition events for children and volunteers.
Provide regular updates to Education Committee, Staff Parish Relations Committee, and Administrative Board
Provide annual reports for Charge Conference and to Staff Parish Relations Committee
Other duties and jobs as they are created and initiated
The Director is responsible for seeing that responsibilities are assumed by a volunteer in his/her absence.
COMPENSATION
The Director of Children’s Ministries position is a part time staff position (hours per week vary with children’s ministry schedules) of the FUMC.
Compensation will be set by the Staff Parish Relations Committee.
Time off is to be arranged with the Pastor and based on the FUMC of Princeton Personnel Policies Manual.
