Today we celebrate Juneteenth; a reminder that freedom and information go hand in hand. More than two years after emancipation was declared, enslaved Africans in Texas finally received the news that they were free. Their freedom existed, but the information had not yet arrived.
As we honor this day, we remain committed to sharing our stories, preserving our history, and ensuring our communities have access to the information and opportunities they deserve.
At the First Episcopal District, we believe Black life, Black Church, and Black families matter and our stories must be told. What is your Black story? How are you celebrating Juneteenth? Share your story below.
