St. James Episcopal Church

St. James Episcopal Church St. James is an Episcopal Parish in Prestonsburg, KY. Holy Eucharist 10:00am We strive to love our neighbors as ourselves and respect the dignity of every person.

St James Episcopal Church is a mission of the Episcopal Diocese of Lexington (Kentucky). As Episcopalians, we are followers of Jesus Christ, our Lord, and we believe in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Episcopal Church has members in the United States, as well as in Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Haiti, Honduras, Micronesia, P

uerto Rico, Taiwan, Venezuela, and the Virgin Islands. The Episcopal Church is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion and traces its heritage to the beginnings of Christianity. Our liturgy retains ancient structure and traditions and is celebrated in many languages. Both men and women, including those who are married, are eligible for ordination as deacons, priests and bishops (regardless of their sexual orientation or preference). We believe in amendment of life, the forgiveness of sin, and life everlasting. Lay people exercise a vital role in the governance and ministry of our church. Holy Communion may be received by all baptized Christians, not only members of the Episcopal Church. We uphold the Bible and worship with the Book of Common Prayer. We affirm that committed relationships are lifelong and monogamous. Episcopalians also recognize that there is grace after divorce and do not deny the sacraments to those who have been divorced. The Episcopal Diocese of Lexington affirms and supports Same-Sex Unions and their Blessings. We affirm that issues such as birth control are matters of personal informed conscience. We celebrate our unity in Christ while honoring our differences, always putting the work of love before uniformity of opinion. All are welcome to find a spiritual home in the Episcopal Church.

Our friends at FUMC are resuming a beautiful, beautiful offering on September 16th. See below dor details, or you can message the St. James page. When i say these folks are amazing, it is an understatement!

“This is what God's kingdom is like: a bunch of outcasts and oddballs gathered at a table, not because they are rich or worthy or good, but because they are hungry, because they said yes. And there's always room for more.” Rachel Held Evans

Hey church fam! We have missed being with you the past couple Sundays and wanted to make sure to post here about the restart of our Tuesday Night community dinners! Leslie, Jimmy and I will be hosting these at the Owsley house starting 6pm Tuesdayr, September 16th, running through the fall every Tuesday and ending Tuesday, November 18th. (There will be a few hosted at the parsonage sprinkled in as well but we will let you know when those are!)

As a quick reminder - these evenings are a low key, low pressure, time set aside for us to slow down and have a meal together. After the meal, we will share a brief reflection of some kind and then wrap up with a prayer. Show up as you are, nothing is required and it is an open invite so feel free to share - as stated above, there is always room for more ❤

Reach out to me, Jimmy, or Leslie with any questions or if you need directions to our house (to those who stuck with us last year -- rest assured, we have a usable driveway now, although carpooling is still encouraged). We look forward to being with y’all!n r

Today we remember the feast day of our Patron Saint, James the Great. The first to be martyred for his faith.

Feast of Saint James

O gracious God, we remember before you today your servant and apostle James, first among the Twelve to suffer martyrdom for the Name of Jesus Christ; and we pray that you will pour out upon the leaders of your Church that spirit of self-denying service by which alone they may have true authority among your people; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
