Living with the "end in mind" challenges our intellect in contrast to "matters of the heart". To find a balance between the two portions of our essence necessitates us to live as though today is the last chapter of our natural life. Following the advice of the writer of Hebrews, we are to throw off every hindrance that weighs us down (Hebrews 12.1), we are able to run our race of living with stamina and finish strong. So, what limitations do I throw off? Marcus Aurelius (Roman Emperor in the 2nd Century CE) records five hindrances he found to bring rest in his daily affairs. Those five are carelessness, disengaging from reason, hypocrisy, self-love, and discontentment with your portion of life. Yesterday is gone, there is no guarantee that tomorrow will come, how will you run the race today? How much weight will you carry?

Finding purpose in life and staying on the path is revealed through the teachings of Paul. Reading is one thing but putting into practice what you have learned reminds me of James 1:25 - "be a doer who acts"!

David understood the protection of the Lord from enemies. God will act on your behalf as your protector if you hide in Him and His word. Do not outpace Him or you are on your own!

Ponder this thought today: Paul just reminded the believers that he was on his knees praying for them, that God would strengthen them with power thru the Holy Spirit to allow Christ to dwell within and then to comprehend the depth and height and goes above your knowledge of the love of Christ. And then our text begs the question how deep and how far do you want to go today?
