Thwake Village Partnership

Thwake Village Partnership Rev. Dr. David Nzioka, a Thwake native, had a vision for helping his village beginning with getting a well for water.

Established in 2010, we are a nonprofit partnership between Heartland Presbytery and the Kikuyu Presbytery of East Africa, helping support a clinic, girls' home, schools, church, and birthing center in Thwake, Kenya (about 60 miles southwest of Nairobi). The Thwake Village Partnership, started in 2010, is a collaboration of ideas, knowledge and resources between the people living in Thwake, Kenya

and those within the greater Kansas City area. That dream grew to include a health clinic, Presbyterian church, a girls' home and more, all to help make lives better.

Mission Sewing volunteers sewed these dream bags—which are pillowcases that double as duffel bags—for the 10 residents and two matrons at the girls' home in Thwake, Kenya. We also had enough to give to the older ladies who are preparing for university and attending college in Nairobi! With your financial support, the team was able to add necessities and fun items such as undergarments, socks, sunglasses, journals, reusable feminine products, and more!

On Wednesday, May 28, we gathered at the home of Dorothy and Rev. David Nzioka to pack medical supplies and more for our upcoming trip to Thwake. Dorothy made a wonderful meal and we spent time together in prayer and preparation for our travels.

Greetings from the 10 residents who live in the girls' home in Thwake! This photo was taken on May 7. Our team of 15 will leave soon to visit them and others who live in and near Thwake, Kenya. We will visit their church, pray and learn alongside them, offer a free medical clinic, share meals, and much more. Grateful for this opportunity to reconnect. We have not been able to visit since 2018—before the pandemic.

The countdown is on—less than a month until our departure! Here are some photos from the last time (2018) we were able to visit our friends in Thwake, Kenya. You will see from some familiar faces, such as Rev. Tom Are and Rev. Meg McLaughlin. We are collecting supplies now for the medical clinic and for the students; find our Amazon wish list here: amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2B0AA5NR14KTH?ref_=wl_share

A group of 17 persons—including Revs. David Nzioka and Maggie Johnson Phillips—will be returning to Thwake, Kenya in June! Beginning in 2010 with the formation of the Thwake Village Partnership, Village Presbyterian Church has invested resources, prayer, and friendship in the girls’ home, secondary school, church, clinic, and birthing center in Thwake and its roughly 4,000 residents. The last Village-sponsored trip was in 2018—although a medical team had planned one in 2020 before the pandemic brought travel to a halt. You can help support this partnership and the clinic: villagepres.churchcenter.com/giving/to/thwake-village-partnership
