Good Word Friday: A Joyous Shout
Psalm 100:1 KJVS
Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
JOYFUL NOISE: RÛA (ROO-AH)
• "to mar (especially by breaking); figuratively to split the ears (with {sound}) that {is} shout (for alarm or joy)…" (Strong's Concordance with KJV)
• "1. to shout, raise a sound, cry out, give a blast;
• 1a. (Hiphil); a1. to shout a war-cry or alarm of battle; a2. to sound a signal for war or march; a3. to shout in triumph (over enemies); a4. to shout in applause; a5. to shout (with religious impulse); a6. to cry out in distress;
• 1b. (Polal) to utter a shout;
• 1c. (Hithpolel); c1. to shout in triumph; c2. to shout for joy;
• 2. (Niphal) destroyed" (Brown-Driver-Briggs Definition, KJVS)
To be honest, when I first heard this verse quoted, I thought it meant that regardless of singing ability (or lack thereof), everyone can sing unto the Lord.
But upon reading the meaning of this Word in the Hebrew, I now see it doesn't mean that all. We are to cry out to Lord, to shout so loud it "splits the ears," a war cry of triumph, shouts of joy.
There is nothing more irritating to the enemy than when we give God praise despite everything we've gone through. The devil HATES to hear your shouts and cries of praise, your joyful shouts of triumph.
So he works very hard to silence you by hitting you with strings of attacks, or with discouragement, or flat out lying to you by saying God doesn't care.
But in this same Psalm it says, "Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture." (Ps. 100:3 KJV)
Know that the LORD (Jehovah, Great I Am) is God (Elohim, Powerful and Mighty Creator.) Even on my best day, I will never outdo Jesus. And because the LORD is my shepherd, I know I won't want for anything (Ps 23:1).
Rather than focusing on the person, people, or situation, focus on giving praise to the One who made you. Start shouting for joy for the victory to come.
