Prairie View Reformed Church

Prairie View Reformed Church Church services are Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM. Following is a time for coffee, fellowship, and children's Sunday School. We'd love to have you join us!

WHO WE ARE:
We are a Reformed Christian Church. Reformed because our heritage is connected to the Protestant Reformation. We emphasize that the Bible is the Word of God, the final authority for what we believe and how we live. In and through the Bible, God, by the Holy Spirit, reveals the truth about himself and speaks to us today. Christian because Jesus Christ is central to our lives as Lord

and Savior. He is the One in whom we trust and whom we strive to obey. Because we love Jesus we want to share with others the message of forgiveness and new life in Christ. Church because God has gathered us from different backgrounds and from all walks of life into the one world-wide family of those who belong to Christ. We have been brought together by God's Spirit, and commit ourselves to mutual support and to service in our community and the world. WHOM WE BELIEVE:
We believe in God the Father who has created the world and governs all things. He is our faithful Father. We believe in God the Son who came to earth as Jesus Christ. In Jesus Christ we see the love of God. Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin. He rose from the dead to give us new life. We believe that through faith in Jesus Christ we receive the forgiveness of sins. As such, salvation is by grace alone, through faith in Christ. It is not a reward for good works. We believe that because of Jesus Christ, we already now share in the gift of eternal life, and will one day be raised from the dead to be with him in heaven. We believe in God the Holy Spirit who lives in every believer and continually nurtures us so that we may grow in our understanding of God and the faithfulness in his service. WHAT WE BELIEVE:
We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. It reveals all we need to know and serve God. We believe that the Church includes all who confess Jesus Christ as Savior and serve him as Lord. Through the ministry of the Church, God is calling people everywhere to believe in Jesus and live for him.

โ€ข A summary of this faith is found in three creeds we share with Christian churches throughout the world. They are the Apostles' Creed, The Nicene Creed and the Athanasian Creed.

โ€ข We also profess three confessions from the Reformation. They are the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession, and the Canons of Dort.

โ€ข We celebrate two sacraments, Holy Baptism and Holy Communion.

Regan and Kadee Kat's family led our Advent candle lighting as we lit the 4th candle, the LOVE candle.

Heavenly Father, the whole meaning of Christmas can be explained in one little four-letter wordโ€ฆLOVE. You sent your gift of pure love to us that first Christmas. Love descended from heaven to be born of a virgin. Love lay in the scratchy hay of a manger in a meager barn in Bethlehem. All of your love, God, was robed in the delicate skin of a baby and wrapped in swaddling clothes. This final week of Advent helps us to reflect on the magnitude of love that was made manifest in Jesus.

โ€œBy this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one anotherโ€ (John 13:35).

As you move into Christmas this week, be reminded of the distinguishing mark you carry as a follower of Jesus. Ask for his love to be evident in your words and actions as you interact with others. Seek to bring unity and balance into relationships or situations.

Here is a prayer to help you do that:

"Father God, thank you for your generous love to me. Thank you that you see the abundance in my life rather than all my shortfalls. Help me to offer that same gracious love to those I mingle with this Christmas season. Pour your love into my heart so I can give it away. May they know I am a follower of Jesus by my love. In Jesusโ€™ name I pray, Amen."

Beau and Jenny Van Loenen's family led our Advent candle lighting as we lit the JOY candle.

This third week of Advent, let us remember that the good news of Jesusโ€™ birth has the power to bring us great JOY this Christmas season. Our JOY isnโ€™t dependent on what is going on in our life, in our world, or the people that we are with. It doesnโ€™t depend on the gifts we give or the gifts we find under the tree. No earthly thing can ever give us complete JOY. Our JOY comes from you. That JOY that flooded the hearts of the shepherds, the angels, the wise men, the hosts of heaven, and Mary and Joseph is the JOY that still has the power to overwhelm our hearts with rejoicing.
