John the Baptist’s main mission was to prepare the way, then get out of the way. He was first a voice crying out in the wilderness “prepare ye the way of the Lord.” He was next, (and this was critical and of the utmost importance) our example of humility by modeling and saying, “He must increase and I must decrease.” John was a prophet, a forerunner, and most importantly, a good friend of the bridegroom. The one who never takes the attention of the bride from the the bridegroom. Jesus is our bridegroom God, and we are tasked with the weighty responsibility of preparing the hearts of His people for His second coming but more immediately, preparing the hearts of His people for His manifest presence coming in any given service ... and then to get out of the way, to disappear in the glory and let God encounter His bride, of which we are a part.
