If we continue to read John 7:39 we are given the answer, "By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive." The Holy Spirit by lifting us up, pulling us out of the darkness of living in a world of sin and doubt, and granting us an eternal life filled with the light of Christ.
