Our mission statement, like NKBC’s mission statement, is based on the Great Commandments and the Great Commission. Love God – we will encourage youth to love God by developing their own personal
devotions and by encouraging them to express their love for God by attending the church
and youth worship services. Love others – we will encourage them to attend retreats, special events, and attend small
groups on Sunday nights where they can share their burdens and receive encouragement
and pray for one another. Teach – we will teach them to obey everything Jesus has commanded by teaching the Bible
in Sunday school and on Sunday nights, as well as offer a discipleship course for those who
want go deeper in their relationship with God. Reach – we will teach them how to share the gospel and encourage them to be witnesses
through their lives and lips and bring their unsaved friends to all our events. Our approach to living out the mission statement at Fire Youth Ministries:
When we love Jesus wholeheartedly, we can love others with a supernatural love as God lives in us - and the world will see that we are His disciples, not of this world. We get this from three places in the Bible:
Matthew 22:37-39 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” - the whole law flows out of loving God wholeheartedly and loving our neighbors as ourselves
Matthew 28:18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” - Jesus is with us as we live out His commandment to make disciples of all nations
John 13:35: “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” - By our love for Jesus and love for one another, the world can see we follow Christ, not our own desires
But what does that supernatural love look like? It’s displayed perfectly in Jesus on the cross:
Luke 23:33-34: When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there… and Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
Father, forgive them. Strike them down.” Our flesh would say, “Wait, it wasn’t me! Let me down!” Instead, what we see from Jesus is a supernatural love and humility - something not from this world. The very people who wrongfully kill Jesus, He requests that God forgive them. And with that kind of love living in each one of your children, the people in their worlds can know who Jesus is, and they can live that out boldly for the rest of their lives. The world doesn’t have that kind of love, but with Jesus, each of us can have and grow that kind of love, and we can work together to help the youth cultivate that same love for Jesus and for others to last a lifetime, into eternity.
