Yeladim means β€œchildren” in Hebrew, and we mean that with intention: with young children at the center, families all around them, and a community celebrating Shabbat with music, movement, and joy. There is nothing we sing, learn, or do that isn’t meant to be accessibleβ€”from our littlest learners to grown-ups and grand–grown-ups alike.

Shabbat Yeladim is a Jewish space for wiggles, music, stories, and the kind of Shabbat joy that might just get everyone to nap timeβ€”or a good Shabbos shluff.
If your child is in diapers and happiest in a stroller listening to musicβ€”and it works with nap timeβ€”we want you there. If your kiddo is in preschool, kindergarten, first, or second grade, this space is especially for you. If your kiddo is in third or fourth gradeβ€”or a proud big siblingβ€”you are absolutely welcome too.

Your young family is invited to attend a Shabbat service together, led by Rabbi Jeff, in a way that feels joyful, warm, and full of life. Snacks will be provided after each service. Our next Shabbat Yeladim will be held on Saturday, September 5, at 10:15 am. Please RSVP so we can plan accordingly to [email protected] or 845.454.2570.

Let's provide backpacks filled with school supplies to children living in local shelters and motel rooms! Let's provide little children who are in need with basic clothing (underwear, sweatpants, T-shirts) so that they can attend school!

All donations will benefit children ages 4-8 in grades PreK-2 at Sojourner Truth (formerly Morse) Elementary School in Poughkeepsie. Help these children start the school year right!

Please contribute online in any amount to the Vassar Temple Community Tzedakah Fund, designated for Hanukkah in August. Or send your check made out to Vassar Temple with Community Tzedakah Fund on the memo line. We are the People of the Book - please help these children learn.

For questions, or to volunteer to sort and pack the clothing & school supplies we purchase: [email protected].

This "Mitzvah Now" is a joint project of JFedDC, PJ Library, and the Jewish Social Action Coalition members: Vassar Temple, Temple Beth El, Congregation Shir Chadash, Congregation Schomre Israel, & The Harding Club
