What a wonderful Sunday worship this past Palm Sunday with Bishop Foster. She reminded us that the power of hope, the power of community, and the power of organizing together are strong enough to tear down the structures of this world that keep us small and quiet and fearful. Palm Sunday is a protest - "Hosanna!" "Save Us" shouted at Jesus Christ coming into Jerusalem on a donkey from the East - while Pontius Pilate and the military powers that would destroy and oppress come in from the west. Many are in fear right now, fear that is used to control and silence, and are in hiding. But we can use the power of the hope in God's love to make a difference. - Thank you Bishop for reminding us of that!
As a pastor, I don't think I can say enough that in Christ we are called to gather, to live and bring forth the kingdom of God where every person is a beloved child of God - whether or not they are "legal" immigrants, how they identify with regard to gender, who they choose as a partner, what the color of their skin is, how they express their faith, and so many other ways that we find to exclude. The kingdom of God, the love of Jesus Christ, is always one that includes - not one that excludes.
As Bishop Foster says, God loves you and so do I!
