Dear Parishioners,
As we approach the celebration of Trinity Sunday, I invite you to join us in reflecting on the profound Mystery of the Holy Trinity – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This feast offers us a unique opportunity to deepen our understanding and reverence for the triune nature of our God.
Trinity Sunday, observed on the Sunday following Pentecost, calls us to contemplate the unity and diversity within the Godhead. It is a day to affirm our faith in the doctrine of the Trinity, a cornerstone of Christian belief that reveals God's infinite love, wisdom, and power. As St. Augustine eloquently expressed, “If you see charity, you see the Trinity,” highlighting the inseparable bond of love that exists within the divine relationship of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
In our Western Rite Orthodox tradition, we draw from the liturgical richness of the Western Church, celebrating with prayers and hymns that have been cherished for centuries. The collect for Trinity Sunday, for example, beautifully encapsulates our adoration: "Almighty and everlasting God, who has given unto us Thy servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of the Divine Majesty to worship the Unity: we beseech Thee that Thou wouldst keep us steadfast in this faith, and evermore defend us from all adversities, who livest and reignest, one God, world without end."
As we gather to celebrate this sacred feast, let us open our hearts to the mystery of the Holy Trinity, seeking to grow in our relationship with God and with one another. May this Trinity Sunday be a time of spiritual renewal and a reaffirmation of our faith in the One God who is three persons, co-eternal and co-equal.
With prayers and blessings,
Fr. Deacon John
