Edgewood Historic Cemetery’s Art Fair and Cleanup on Oct. 22 proved to be a great success amid an active Pottstown weekend.

TAKE THE EDGEWOOD CHALLENGE!

Recently, a generous benefactor has pledged to donate $2,500 to the Cemetery for maintenance of the cemetery grounds provided we can raise $2,500 from the community! We must match his $2,500 before he will release his funds to us. This gift (and the match) is about 20% of our total annual maintenance expense of $25,000 and it is important to our historic cemetery that we meet this challenge! Thank you is not a strong enough phrase for what Bronwyn DeMaso and the Travis Manion Foundation did at our community cemetery today. Raising the flag again, cleaning up the cemetery and placing flags on the veteran's gravesites! Special thanks to Little Italy, Ice House Deli, the Hill School, Joe Ciresi, Audra Ross, Dave Eagen, the Edgewood Historic Cemetery committee and everyone else for making our cemetery a beautiful place! Although it was a little chilly, Pottstown came out again in force to respect those that came before us and made our town the wonderful place it is!

Last fall the first community wide cleanup was held at Edgewood Cemetery. The 100+ volunteers who pitched in actually had a great time — and made a significant difference! There will be plenty to do Saturday morning to help prepare the cemetery for mowing and planting season! Come lend a hand! Bring your own tools and gloves if possible. Spring has sprung... and it’s time to get ready for the growing season at Edgewood Cemetery! Please grab a rake and help collect sticks and debris to make mowing easier. The Cemetery also needs funds to pay the mowing and maintenance fees for this 12-acre resting place: Friends can send a check made out to Edgewood Historic Cemetery, Inc. to 740 E. High St., Pottstown, PA 19464. As previous posts have noted, the cemetery was abandoned in 2012, and a handful of volunteers have been trying to care for it since that time, with Hobart's Run taking an active role in this mission.
