The Way Of Humility
2 Chronicles 7:12-14)

A. Humility.
1. Humbleness of mind - thought process that we can control.
2. Lowliness of mind, not exalting ourselves (Ephesians 4:1-3, Colossians 3:12).
B. Humble.
1. To make oneself of low degree.
2. A choice for us to make (Romans 12:16, 1 Peter 5:5).
C. Opposite of pride especially false pride.
1. Building ourselves up in our own sight, looking down on others.
2. Proverbs 16:18.
D. Example of God's mercy and grace to those who show humility.
1. King Josiah (2 Chronicles 34:26-28).
2. God spared him seeing destruction of Judah, Jerusalem & the Temple.
I.
Parable of Pharisee and Publican (Luke 18:9-14).
A. Pharisees look upon themselves as only true faithful ones under the Law.
B. Luke 18:11-12. "God you are so fortunate to have me as your servant".
C. Publican - "evil" tax collector for Roman government.
1. Hated by his own people as a traitor to God and Israel.
2. What did he do? (vs. 13).
D. Who was justified before God? The publican (vs. 14).
II.
Jesus' disciples' problem with humility (Matthew 18:1-4).
A. Each wanted to be "boss" over all other servants, including apostles.
1. Viewed heavenly kingdom same as earthly kingdoms.
2. Jesus had to set them straight (18:4).
B. Matthew 23:9-12.
1. Men want religious titles for recognition: Father, rabbi, master, etc.
2. In religious sense we have only one Father - God. One eternal Master - Christ.
Ill.
Apostle Peter learned God's way (1 Peter 5:5-7).
A. All are to show humility in life, actions and thoughts.
B. To be truly exalted in God's sight we submit in humility to His will (1 Peter 5:6-7).
C. Micah 6:8.
IV.
Jesus is the greatest example of all (Philippians 2:5-11).
A. Have the mind (attitude) of Christ. Difficult for us but not impossible (Mark 10:27).
B. He gave up existence in Heaven as one of Godhead for us (Vs. 6-8).
C. Result of His perfect humility and submission to will of the Father? (Vs. 9-11).
Jesus set the perfect example of humility for all. He invites us to follow His lead.
(Matthew 11:28-30). Apostle Paul exemplified by his own death. Very shortly before his own ex*****on by beheading (2 Timothy 4:7-8).
What is our response to our Lord's call for humility?

An Ancient Recipe For Peace And Prosperity
(Psalms 122:7)

A. Christians should be happiest, most positive & optimistic people in the world.
B. Many people seeking happiness, peace & prosperity but often in wrong places.
C. What does the Word of God say about it?
I. Some misconceptions need to be understood.
A. Not for Christians to prosper & to desire prosperity in life (3 John 2, Prov. 30:7-9).
B. Happiness & prosperity are not evaluated properly by the world (Acts 10:34, Eccl. 2:11
1 Timothy 5:6).
C. Faithful service to God does not automatically insure prosperity (Deut. 8:18, 1 Cor. 16:2).
II. Recipe for peace & prosperity in Psalms 122.
A. Gladness of going to God's House (Meeting of the church) (Ps. 122:1, 1 Tim. 3:15, Ps. 37:25).
B. Standing up for God and His way Matt. 12:30, Luke 12, Heb. 12:22-23).
C. Unity is necessary for peace & prosperity (Ps. 122:3, Eph. 2:19-22;; 4:1-3).
D. Peace & prosperity are liked to gratitude (Ps. 122:4).
E. Both require a respect for standards of authority (Ps. 122:5).
F. They come as a result of prayer & love (Ps. 122:6, Matt. 6:11, James 4:1-3, Phil. 4:6-7).
G. Secret lies within, not without (Ps. 122:7).
H. Require right relationships with others (Ps. 122:8-9, Gal. 6:10, Acts 10:38, Luke 6:38).
Peace & prosperity come not from seeking one's own pleasure & satisfaction, but through being selfless. Giving of ourselves to God & His work & worship. Giving to others, especially to those who have no ability to repay. By maintaining prayer, love, unity & standing upon the foundation of "the faith once for all delivered to the saints" (Jude 3).

Shall I Keep the 10 Commandments?
(Exodus 20:1-2)

A. Many today think we must keep the 10 Commandments to be right with God.
B. 10 Commandments was of divine origin but it was replaced by the N.T. (2 Peter 1:21).
I. Must ask 3 questions which have bearing on original question.
A. Where were 10 Commandments given? Mt. Sinai (Ex. 19, Deut. 5:2, Isaiah 2:2-3).
B. When were they given? (Ex. 13-19, Jeremiah 31:31-33, Hebrews 7:6, Acts 2:16-17).
C. To whom were they given? Israel only (Ex. 20:2, Deut. 5:1-5, Nehemiah 9:13-14).
II. Why should no one desire to be under and to keep the 10 Commandments?
A. Because Law was made only with physical Israel, spiritual Israel will be saved (Exodus 34:27-28, Galatians 3:26-29).
B. Law could not forgive sins (Rom. 8:3, 2 Cor. 3:7, James 2:10).
C. We cannot keep the and follow Christ (Matt. 5:17, Col. 2:13-14, Gal. 5:4, Titus 2:11).
Should we keep the 10 Commandments? What purpose would anyone have for it? No one can be saved except through Christ (John 14:6, Colossians 2:14). We should desire to be a part of Spiritual Israel (Galatians 3:24, Rev. 22:17).
