Dear Friends and Family,
Please consider helping me!
I have two more families to finish HOPE's Christmas 2023. One single mother has 10 children. Five are in sixth grade and below. Five are 11-17 years old. I have enough toys, but we do not have any suitable clothing and hygiene items, and we have nothing at all for teenagers.
Her 15 and 17-year-old sons have been shot—wrong place and wrong time. Both were shot this year. The 15-year-old was shot when he was 14. The family has suffered a lot of trauma and is in desperate need of HOPE. Three of her boys, ages 15, 13, and 12, are in my CHARACTER-THROUGH-WORK (C-T-W) Program. I pick them up after school, on days when school is closed, and on Saturdays. They work at the warehouse, unloading tractor trailers, sorting, packing, loading the HOPE truck, and delivering the goods. They also pick up donated furniture, bring it back, clean it, help make necessary repairs, and deliver it to families in need, especially families transitioning from a homeless shelter to an apartment.
In C-T-W, our boys and young men learn essential skills that many of us take for granted. Things our fathers’ passed to us: how to work, how to carry on a conversation, how to smile, how to laugh, and how to behave around people. They also learn there are good people in this world and work is more than just showing up. It's accomplishing the task. It's finishing the job in a way that makes you proud when you look at what you have done. We provide them with a small stipend. But most of all, we have them in the presence of godly men, teaching and modeling biblical character and demonstrating Christian principles.
My next family is a retired widow who is a single mom with an adult daughter. The mother relies on her Social Security. She works in every aspect of this ministry as a volunteer. She does everything I or anyone else does. She lifts, totes, and drives the forklift and large cargo truck. She wrestles with those struggling with alcoholism, addiction, and mental health issues. She preaches and teaches as well, all as a full-time volunteer.
About ten years ago, a homeless addict handed her a beautiful baby girl who was between two and three years old and then disappeared. The judge awarded our friend temporary custody ten years ago. Now thirteen, she works in the ministry alongside the only Momma she has known. She is too old for toys and can't afford the clothes that other girls wear, always wearing clothing from the HOPE closet (Well, you understand...) and never complaining. Neither she nor her mother has asked for anything, but both have worked so hard for so long for nothing and have never been able to have anything trendy. I ask you to help me make this Christmas memorable for this girl. Her life has been difficult enough transitioning to teen years in public school is hard enough without standing out because your clothes are considered as less than.
Please consider helping by sending a small Christmas offering/donation through Cash App, Venmo, Zelle, or PayPal to help purchase clothing and hygiene items to help me finish HOPE's 2023 Christmas Ministry. No gift is too small or too large, and any contribution will go a long way in assisting our cause. Thank you in advance for your support.
I look forward to hearing from you. Until then, I remain...
