St. Mark UMC Portsmouth, VA We are a loving community of Christians serving God, each other, and the community around us.

We are a multi-racial and multi-ethnic community of worshipping Christians. Since we have members from various religious back grounds, we are mindful that some small differences in theology might exist. We are welcoming, we are relaxed, and we are always happy to see a new face.

Gracious God,
We pray for those families who lost loved ones and for those physically and mentally injured during another senseless shooting. We continue to pray for the safety of our children, teachers, staff, administrators, and the world. May the violence cease, and love abide in our hearts and minds. Bless us with strength and courage to do what is needed to keep guns, weapons, out of the hands of our children and anyone who would take a life or hurt another. Lord, increase in us a sense of awareness that we may be able to, in some way, identify when someone is depressed, lonely, hurt, angry, or in any negative situation. Bless us with Your wisdom so that we may offer them a word of hope and give them guidance on how to receive any needed help. Lord, we continue to lift the world in prayer. We find help in Your Word for we know that our help comes from the Lord! “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1 NIV) We thank You, Lord, and give You all the honor, praise, and glory. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen!!

A 44-year-old Suffolk man died after he was struck by a driver next to his disabled car on the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel, state police said.
